Williams is the best 3 pt shooter in that group Garcia is probably the best 2 way player amongst that group though but he and Brewer are different types of defenders. What I felt Garcia did well in the playoffs last year was play really good off ball defense (ball denial, playing Durant 90 feet etc) but once Durant had the ball Garcia's defense was poor (though to his defense Durant makes almost everyone's defense look poor) -- contrasting with Parsons who played Durant tougher once KD had the ball. Brewer plays on-ball defense really well and while he wont stop Durant of course he will do a better job over Garcia.
Sounds right to me too. If we can get a 2nd round pick for Covington's fully guaranteed contract, it would be nice.
You guys are really underestimating his jumper. He has an unorthodox shot, but he is fairly efficient. I believe he's dropped double digits on us a few times and if I recall correctly, he's torched us in the past with the j*zz. He can hit clutch jumpers too... Obviously he is more of a defensive player, but he is not freking Ryan Bowen. I think Morey is looking to model the team after OKC...you need some stoppers in there like Thabo to go with the shooters. Our main holes are at the PF and PG spot, which I hope we fix through some trades. I hope Lin has a better year, but I'm not sure if he's here long term at this point.
Brewer is athletic as hell and can finish really well around the basket. Perfect for an up tempo offense. This is a steal, he will thrive here.
defense. because McHale will slow the game down with Dwight in the mix. since brewer is a defensive specialist.. he'll be crucial in the playoffs. brace yourselves for a slower pace than last years "screw defense and run like a mofo". we'll see some classic Rockets+Celtics smart, hard, dirty, type of game plus the dangerous change of paceto run and gun when Dwight is on the bench. I hope they do this because that will make Rockets almost unpredictable and will play depending on the style of the opponents. we can literally challenge any team meow.
no, he's actually a very good finisher around the rim.....ie. baseline cuts backdoor, which is something this roster was lacking
other benches won't be scoring much against our bench: Beverly Garcia Brewer TJones Camby/Asik Super defense.
I wish this meant a trade is coming, but honestly Morey probs just trying to increase competition and make guys like Young, Covington and Casspi really work for their spot
It looks like a training camp pickup to me. Since the Rockets are not under the luxury tax tax, his signing for the vet minimum just costs his salary. You are not a good NBA owner if you let a few hundred thousand dollars stand in the way of acquiring tackling dummies.
If they do the Asik at C and Howard at PF and it works, if Camby is the back up C, then it would seem like Greg Smith would be on his way out. Via trade for a 2nd rounder.
