Swearinger's a ferocious safety. He's slightly undersized, but more than compensates with physicality and aggressiveness. He was a 4-year starter at Carolina and captain of a top-10 unit as a senior, and if he stays healthy at this level, I think he has a very, very bright future. He reminds me of Bob Sanders.
per Vandermeer, Hopkins ran an incorrect route on the Schaub pick after he had his concussion http://www.houstontexans.com/news/article-2/Vandermeers-View/dceb50ff-28a2-4939-84b1-c5f099e07942
i hope schaub understands hopkins wasn't himself and doesn't decide to iso him and only pass to dre, owens and graham.
Damn he must have had his concussion pretty early in the game. Maybe after that first catch near the sideline.
That's exactly who I was thinking of... Bob Sanders had that same relatively small, yet compact, built body with very good tackling ability, same features as Swearinger...hopefully that hitting style won't cut DJ's career short the way it did to Sanders because I feel we have a very high upside safety...and with Reed grooming him, that's only icing on the cake.
Watching it again right now. Newton and Jones got manhandled by their 1st team DL, absolutely pathetic. I want to see Quessenberry get some snaps with the 1s.
Swearinger destroyed that knee. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Dolphins TE Dustin Keller tore his ACL, MCL, PCL and, as if that weren't enough, dislocated his knee, per source.</p>— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/statuses/369141677882998786">August 18, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Keenum needs to work on releasing his passes higher so they don't get batted down. Other than that, I was damned impressed.
http://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/wiki/seasons/2013/preseasoninjuries 32 players out for the season with preseason injuries 17 ACL tears
What doesn't make sense is this...didn't Hopkins catch a pass over the middle early in the second quarter (I think because I think Case threw it...could be wrong), and try to put a move on the guy, only to have his legs taken out and his head hit the turf? This was after the interception. I remember seeing him slow to get up and thinking that I hoped it wasn't his knee... Pretty sure it was Hopkins anyways. Could have been Jean, but I'm almost positive. The commentators were talking about it and I remember Tillman saying that people think the turf is soft, but it isn't and when you hit your head on it, you know it...
The NFL doesn't care one bit. ACLs don't have long term implications, and in the short term, there are plenty of bodies to fill the void.
Tell their players they were going back to the old way of playing where you didn't get fined or penalized for anything and everything within a ten inch radius of someone's head. Tell the players if they don't like the possibility of becoming permanently impaired, they should get a real job and not get paid boatloads to play a game. That's what the fans would want, anyways, but its been deemed politically incorrect. Therefore, nothing other than turn it into a no-tackling league.
