He reminds me most of World B. Free. Both drafted in the 2nd round from small schools, similar size (6'2" 185lbs vs 6'0" 195lbs), vertical (44" vs 40"), stats (albeit college vs pro, both around 20pts, 3-4 asst, and 3-4 reb, 3 TO, 45% FG, 75-80% FT), both are score first PG's and deadly jump shooters able to get shot off against bigger players due to strength, vertical, quick release, and high arc. Both have ability to get to the rim/get fouled (not because of their quickness but because you have to respect their jumper so much). I just watched videos of both and their style of play is so much alike. Just hope Isaiah's skillset and stats transfer to the NBA.
The Jameer Nelson comparisons are actually pretty good to me, except that (1) Isaiah is 2-3 inches taller and (2) Jameer had better teammates in college (namely, Delonte West) and therefore was able to gain more national notoriety with casual college basketball fans leading a very good St. Joseph's team. Both were terrific shooters in college with good (but not great) PG skills. Canaan very easily could have gone in the same range as Nelson (18 to 24 range) but fell due to this year's terrific depth at the PG spot. If Canaan can have nearly the same career as Nelson has had thus far, then it would be a remarkable success for the #34 pick in the draft.
For someone who is a cap GENIOUS, u also have a great understanding of the game. Good work dav You deserve your own nba TV show to educate the fanboys
Is Isaiah really taller? He seems a lot bulkier but still athletic, which is where the Lowry comparisons come from I guess. Either way, loved watching that draft workout video. Keep draining those 3s.
OK. Lets be honest. The guy was a second round pick that the Rockets signed to a contract that is just rounding error in their overall payroll. D-League for him. He is a short and slow and cannot finish at the rim type of point guard. I wish him the best, but he has to surprise big time to make an NBA roster.
Luis Scola Carl Landry Chase Budinger Chandler Parsons All laugh at your idea that he has to surprise big time to make an NBA roster.
-D-League??.... of course at first at the very least. I haven't heard of any intelligent poster on here claim that he's going to beat out Lin, Bev, & Brooks in training camp for a rotation spot. He's going to get some run in training camp, but he's got his work cut out for him going against 3 very good starting caliber NBA PG's who are all very, very hungry. -Short???... Well.... yeah, he's a PG. I didn't know PG's had to be 6'6" to be effective in the NBA. Steve Nash, Stockton, CP3.... how many of those PG's were considered tall by NBA standards? -Slow???... I'll be honest... I didn't watch a ton of Murray State B-Ball, but from what I have seen of him thus far, he definitely seems way more athletic than you are giving him credit for. Still his best asset as a young player is the fact that he can shoot lights out. The Rockets didn't draft him to be Derrick Rose-like getting to the rim. The drafted him because he can shoot. We'll have to wait and see how other aspects of his game come around at the next level. I for one, am not counting on him being a get-to-the-rim type of PG. I see more of a Chauncey Billups type of game if he develops correctly. Yes the guy is a 2nd round pick with a very low likelihood of panning out in the NBA as all 2nd round picks are. Still, Morey has proven to us time and time again that he can pull some very exciting young players at that range in the draft. Definitely not counting on this guy becoming the next great superstar PG, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be a fan favorite type of Rocket, or a great asset for this team.
Agree with everything, but lumping Brooks with starting caliber. It has been a while since he has has demonstrated he is starting caliber. Offensively, he looks to fit with team if he can get back to playing more than spot minutes energetically. Defensively, Rockets would be best place for him since they have Howard and Asik.
Brooks, while its been some time since he had a large role, proved this Spring in the playoffs that his game hasn't declined one bit.... the only thing that declined was his role. Remember there was a lockout that happened right as Brooks was about to go into free agency. He took a gamble that the season would be cancelled, and went to play in Asia. When the season started back up, he had no choice but to miss out on the start of the season, thus loosing a contract, and guaranteed spot in the rotation. Athletically I haven't seen any decline at all. His first step still looks to be there, and his shooting touch isn't going anywhere. I know people are penciling in as just a pure insurance plan in case of injuries, or trade, but I think people will might be surprised at how much he ends up playing this year. With no clear backup scoring guard behind Lin & Harden, I wouldn't be shocked at all for Brooks to be the primary offensive option off the bench playing alongside Beverley in the backcourt.
