The 3 teams that I see dominating for the next 7 years and fighting for the championships are the Rockets, Spurs, and Mavericks.

Hate to say this but I rate the Spurs and Mavericks ahead of us not only now...but for the next 3 years as well. Unless the Rockets move a lot of dead weight (Mobley, Griffin, Rice) get a new offense (Like the supposed Sacramento offense they were suppose to run this year) and get some toughness on the inside (Yao is soft, Cato brings it as much as he can...rest of the team are all softer than tissue paper....Eddie is the worst) and learn how to pass the ball and play defense, this team will not win titles. This season I feel as if the Rockets should of at least tried to play Cato at the PF along side Yao. Definitely makes us tougher inside defensively and rebounding would be great. And we would also have one less guy on the floor who thinks they can score at will when they really cant. (Taylor and Eddie)

Mavericks and Spurs have their lineups/systems/and talent in stock. People forget that Duncan is only 6 months older than KOBE! Manu, Tony Parker, Bowen, Rose, and the obvious good free agents they will get this summer makes them my #1 pick. Hell they might be the favorites to win the title this year (Im still picking the Kings) Spurs have toughness, the best PF in the league hands down(who is still really young) and a great supporting cast(Which are all young as well) and a super-star in the making PG(Parker is only 20?!?! thats ridiculous) They run great offense, have an unselfish superstar who is my pick for MVP, and great role players who are TOUGH and YOUNG....oh and they have the best defense in the league.

Dallas on the other hand is poised for greatness for another reason. They have more pieces in place right now than the Rockets do. They have 3 superstars who are relatively young. They have Dirk who is single handily amazing. They have a better coach than we do for sure. They run an amazing system where everyone knows their roles and plays hard every night. They have better inside guys than us with YES Bradley and Lafrentz and Najera. Why might you ask...its because they are tougher than the Rockets inside guys. Yao is soft, right now, Griffin will always be soft. The Rockets would salivate to have the chance to have Raef or a guy like Najera on our team. Cato is our only tough guy. Another reason which many of you may pick on me for is that they have the best owner in basketball. Mark Cuban has made the Mavericks a contender right away and hes obsessed with winning and will make the moves nescessary to make this team championship callibar.

Rockets will indeed be fighting for Championships in the near future. But they may be the 3rd best team in their own State during the same time. I am not a pessimistic person, the Rockets need a LOT of things to happen to make them championship calliber now or in the next 3-7 years. The team they have now will not cut it at all.....Not even close.

The Rockets can make it happen...but with what they have now they are not the future of the NBA....not by any means.

The Mavs will be formidable. They play as a team. No one man is afraid to take the shot; if the left hook doesn't get you, the other 4 on the floor will! They are a dangerous team.

And, to make matters worse, they never give up! They keep figting to the end. Something the Rockets haven't learned yet (hang their heads, tail between the legs; play soft).

The Spurs are a smart team! High IQ, mixed with some athletes. With Ginobli, Duncan and Parker. They will outsmart the Rockets most of the time.

Our smartest player? Yao. He's just to weak to do anything about it. Maybe next year.

Our dumbest player? Sorry Francis...you get the cake.

Our dumbest player? FRANCIS?!? I believe it is Moochie Norris. And Kelvin Cato as well.

Spurs have a great future. Mavs have a pretty good future, although Michael Finley is pretty old. But we should have a good future as well.

    We just need a coach.

"Dallas on the other hand is poised for greatness..."--- Build them a castle on the Rockets' turf.

"The Mavs will be formidable. " -- Move to DALLAS.
"The Spurs are a smart team!" -- Move to San Antonio.

The only positive out of these posts is that they have a PERIOD at the end. Thanks!

There might be some San Antonio and Dallas discussion boards which might benefit from this. Maybe you can go there...

Can we get some ROCKETS fans in here, please?

GET ME OUT OF THIS MISERY, please... darn pessimists...

It is all well and good to paint a gloomy picture but I remember this year when the Spurs were not all that. The things, in terms of talent, that will put us in that group are already on the team like it was on the Spurs earlier. They got their act together especially when their dominant players started dominating. I have no reason to think that our dominant players will not be dominating next year. If the rockets do not plan on getting 25 and 12 from Ming next year then we will not be in that group.

I think the Rockets should play a mixture of the Lakers' and Spurs' style of offense. They should experiment with it at least. Not just iso anymore. And some 5 man motion offense would be good. But it's pretty useless when you only have 2 players on the team who can shoot. And only like 3 players who can drive inside and make a layup.

Hating on the Sacramento/Dallas offensives is quite comical since they are both leading the league in scoring. Simple fact of that matter is most teams that have the personnel to run these kinds of offenses usually dont play Defense. Thats where Sacramento comes into play this year and are my pick to win it all because they play great on both ends. I mean I guess you are right, Who would want to score over 100 points a game? I guess that style doesnt work?

The Rockets offense needs help in the worst way...(See my previous post "Rockets offense..umm needs help" for details)
My question for you is what was the last team to win a championship iso ball and with soft inside players? ;)

Im not hating on the Rockets here...I am just pointing out that changes need to be made now so they can live up to the potential they have in the future. I love them and will always root for them over anyone...but I am a realist here.

My GOD...I dont understand how people who think they no so much about thsi sport can be so unbelivably stupid!!!! Fact is...there is no way to forsee what any of these teams will be like in 3 years. You are trying to examine the future by what you see now?!? Dallas and SA are close, if not hitting, their peek. What happens after that?? They fall off the map for a little while. We are on the rise meaning we will only be getting better and better over the years. We may not be the top team in 3 years but rest assured we will be one of them. In closing I'll say...PLEASE KEEP YOUR IGNORANT THOUGHTS TO YOURSELF FROM NOW ON...NO ONE ON THIS BOARD WANT TO HEAR THEM!!!

Thanks for stating the obvious of Mavs and Spurs being a better team right now. Who would have know?!

The rocks have a great future. They just have to get all the pieces together. We have a big man, who is going to be terrific in a few years. (He is good now...but inconsistent like all the rocks) Hopefully we will pull some strings, trade afew etc, and allow the team to flow and build on the chemistry.

    The rocks have a future.

sorry, no edit. I agree with some of your points, but I dont think it will be between those 3 teams.

Dallas is a very good team, but they dont appear as a championship team to me. Their defense is horrible. They will out score you though, if they dont have a bad shooting night.

ROcks will be up there in the future. Sorry about my last post, i posted with out reading all of your post.

Lay off the shrooms buddy. This is an opinion forum. Lets make it clear in my posts that I have said the Rockets will be right there for the title....this is not Rocket bashing by any stretch of the imagination. Just stating my opinion that the Rockets have some issues to deal with to have as bright of a future as the Spurs and Mavs will have. They will be one of th elite, but have to some things to take care of to be the best, "in my opinion."

Might wanna take it easy on the caffeine or something. Calling people ignorant because of an opinion post is pretty sad. You might wanna keep your 'ignorant' thoughts to yourself, because nobody sane likes to hear rants like that.

Sacremento has finally added a Defense. . .I will bet against the
Mavs winning a championship RIGHT NOW

I think the Spurs will win it all this year
and I don't like the spurs

I like the way you add the SOFT INSIDE Player thing
    Because 93 - 95 was a Iso Laden Team
just started inside and worked out
and honestly. . . IT COULD WORK WITH YAO
but we just don't have the shooters

SHOOTERS ARE WHAT THE ROCKETS NEED

I think Ming will eventually be better than Dirk, which will make the Rockets better than the Mavs. Maybe in a couple of years. Whether or not he'll ever be better than Duncan, I don't know. The role players are inconsequential.

You must of just loved your Mavs last night...

At least we make a game of it...

SA and MAVS, but not much longer...I see a 2 year window when the Rox are dominated Texas/League again...

I'm actually proud of how tough the Texas three-step is and it's about freakin' time the league respects us...
