is Ilya Kovulchuk the next Gretsky/Lemieux?

I think you mean Iginla. He isn't bad but I think Dany Heatly will be a good player. He is only 22 and is tied for 9th in points. I think Atl may be a team of the future if they can get a couple of pieces to add to the puzzle. They have some really talented young players.

    Rick Nash
    Marion Gaborick
    Heatley

Take your pick of these 3

    Gaborick is a good choice.

But the "next Gretzky" won't be anytime soon. No one has dominated any sport the way Gretzky did the NHL.

Total career points Gretzky (including playoffs) 3,177.
Next on the list -- Gordie Howe at 2,010.

Is there any other professional team sport where an individual's career stats are 58% higher than the next guy on the list???

Yeah, I don’t see another Gretzky or Lemieux on the horizon. Iginla could become the next Mark Messier. Naslund and Bertuzzi could turn into solid stars too. I think that with the number of games they now play, and overall skill level of the players being so high, and size of the ice surface remaining the same, it will be almost impossible for another player as dominant as those two were to establish himself. I really think they need to increase the size of the ice surface, not all the way to Olympic size, but halfway perhaps.

Marian Hossa is pretty darn talented too. He'll be a great player for years to come.

I've heard this Ovechkin guy is a Lemieux/Gretzky type of prospect.

I'm just curious, how good Kovulchuk? What kind of game does he play.

Not even the best player on his own team, Heatley is much better.

    Plus Kovalchuk plays no defense.

Heatley, Gaborick, and Nash are all 21 and under (Nash is just 18) and are the future studs you'll hear about everyday.

I enjoyed the Olympic Hockey. They need to increase the ice surface, and get rid of the red line. That will increase the game speed, and let the talented players with the skating skills do their things. But doing this favors the european players.

players who are in line to be stars.
    Joe Thornton
    Marian Gaborik
    Marian Hossa
    Todd Bertuzzi
Henrik Zetterberg (on any other team he is a star)

Kovalchuk plays zero defense otherwise he would be on here.
