I just do not know what to say, I am glad you are OK, I hope that SOB does that to the wrong guy one day and gets capped. A guy trying to make an honest living is intimidated, robbed, and violated by some no good b*stard who is too lazy f*cking work for a living. It makes you feel cheated. I know the feeling as I was once held at gun point and taken driven to an ATM in the Galleria area. They did not want their faces or car to be seen by the camera so they parked next to but behind the machine. I was 20 years old, every penny meant something to me and did the most ignorant thing anyone could do but luckily. As they sat in the car, I took off running in the opposite direction which they were facing across Post Oak, and made it into the Sound Warehouse. It all worked out, but to this day I think about that and how stupid I was, and how I should be dead. Whether it be for spare change, or just to make ends meet, I respect a guy out there busting his ass like yourself, and hope you are one day rewarded and can live comfortably. Hang in there and good luck!
Thanks everyone, for your kind words and support, it means a lot to me. The delivery area I work in is on the west side of town and there are some really nice areas in it, it is just way to big of an area for it all to be decent. It does include Piney Point and some nice areas along Memorial to the North, but stretches all the way down to Harwin on the south side which isn't perfect, and the westernmost part where this happened, near Wilcrest and Briar Forest has a couple of apartments that aren't too great, but I have been there at 1:00 AM before on a late delivery when I used to work at Domino's in the same area, and was surprised that this happened around 10:00 PM. I called my cell phone company to report my phone as stolen, but the automated system said it could be up to 24 hours before service is shut down. I'm a little more upset about the incident this morning and I want to call and harass him if he still has the phone. I feel violated because it has the phone #'s of friends, family, and other personal aquaintances. Whatever, it's all okay, I'm just redoubling my job search effort. I do have a college degree if a B.S. in Psychology still counts. I'm finding it difficult to get a decent job, though, and I used to like pizza delivery because it just feels like there are a lot of people that owe you money, and you are just driving around collecting it all. Very satisfying if you look at it like that. Thanks again, you guys.
Some places (like in Florida I think) are refusing to deliver pizza to certain neighborhoods because of stuff like this. I think the NAACP (and/or ACLU) is all up in arms about it. I'll try to find an article.
TheFreak, it really is not all that uncommon to have a some complexes banned from delivery. Cagey, does your store not have a few of them? There is an area called Hilcroft Square. Probably 10 years ago there were some thugs who said they worked at a Krogers in the receiving department and when the guy showed up, said thugs beat and robbed the guy.
Dude, that sux... Always resist becasue $50 - $60 bucks and some pizza isn't worth it... Just know you can kick his azz in a fair fight...Go to Monster.com for a new line of work...
Don't quit! You still have yet to experience the classic "deliver a pizza to 10 chicks in their pajamas and have a wild orgy" scene from so many porno films... What, you mean that kind of stuff DOESN'T happen?
I just checked my recent call history online and the guy made a bunch of phone calls in the brief period before it was cut off. Doesn't he know that the phone numbers he called are recorded? Anyway, I'm waiting to hear back from the investigating officer about it, and give him those numbers. It might be more trouble than its worth to pursue a conviction, the last thing I need right now is some thug and his possy after my a** over this, considering I wasn't hurt or anything. I don't know yet.
Are you serious? You sir, have balls. I wouldn't even think twice about running away, for fear of being blasted in the back of the head.
Whose to say they wouldn't have blasted him in the back of the head after they got their money? He had an opportunity and he took advantage of it. Yes, it was a brave move. It may have also saved his life rather than depending on the criminals to make that life or death decision for him. If he saw their faces, then he could have been considered a liability that they didn't want to have around. There were risks either way you look at it. I think he made the right choice with less risk. I had a similar scenario happen to me at a rock concert. Some big mexican guy(not to label mexicans in any way but he was one) tried to rob me at an Iron Maiden concert. I didn't know if he had a weapon or not. I just took off rather than deal him. Not exactly the same thing...but I didn't really care to stick around to see the outcome. I made my own outcome through my own actions rather than let his actions dictate my outcome.
some scary stories here... glad all you guys came through it OK! Pizza delivery places often refuse to deliver to certain apartment complexes. It doesn't sound fair, but now you see why.
My manager has decided that we will no longer deliver to this apartment complex after dark. There has been some new developments in my case. After the robber stole my phone and I left, he dials information (on my phone) to get the number of another pizza place in the area. He orders pizza to a certain apartment number, and when the drivers (there were two for some reason) are leaving the complex after nobody answers the door, he robs them at gunpoint, makes them get down on their knees, takes all their money, and knocks one of them over the head with the gun requiring medical treatment. I hope they are able to find this guy, he deserves to be locked up.
whoa.... not only an a$$hole but an idiot... surely he will get caught soon, leaving a trail of cell phone evidence like this. This ought to get him locked up for quite a while.
He also made about 20 other calls both locally and in the Greater Los Angeles area, which I have since relayed to the investigating officer. I hope that information will provide some clues as to who this guy may be.
I'll assume the feds/cops are doing what they can/will. If this guy's this stupid, maybe some of his friends are too. Maybe a way to find out who the guy is is to call those numbers he's dialed and make it seem like a telemarketer, or something like that. Maybe you will find information that will lead you to your phone. Or robber if you want. That's what I would do if I was a private investigator. Too bad I'm not... ..or am I?.... No, I'm not... You might.... ....Well, I don't recall... Ehhhh, anyway.... do yourself a favor and get a new cell phone; a nice one; can I interest you in this: How about just quit the delivery business and work at Cingular or Verizon. Great deal on above, too!
man that SUCKS. I never got why people steal cell phones.. it's so.. dumb.. luckily you're ok, sometimes those situations can go really wrong, really fast. I was robbed at gun point by a gang of about 6 guys when I was 15 while walking with a friend around my block in the town where I grew up (near Beaumont). They took my headphones and a quarter I had in my pocket.. I had my wallet with 30+ dollars in it in my back pocket, they um, forgot to check my back pocket though..
One of the biggest impressions that were made on me in the two times I have been robbed is that rifling through all of somebody's pockets and taking all their stuff is one of the most blatantly rude things you can do to somebody. I don't think it's one of the absolute worst things, just one of the rudest things you can do to somebody, just denying the normal rules of society shamelessly. "Oh, you know all that stuff you are carrying, all those valuables that you worked hard to get. Oh, well I'll just be taking those now, thank you very much." Pardon me for venting, I'm still upset about this.
