Yes, I totally agree, for now.

(though it would make an intriguing idea to test him at the 4)

Yes, 7th sounds right to begin with.

    Actually - we have 4 top starters (H, H, P, L),
and the rest of the roster members can all
step-up and make themselves usefull (or brilliant)
on the 5th to 10th spot:
Asik, Bev, Garcia, Casspi, DMo, Jones...

    Great post.

He's certainly intriguing but gonna be interesting to see how he fits in the rotation. With Parson's taking backup PF mins and Garcia taking Backup Sf mins it's gonna be tough to find a slot for himself.

But you never know. If he makes some noise he could replace Parsons in the small ball PF slot... Allow Mchale to play Parsons more at SF. As always the starting PF question looms.

    Hi Kwame!
You're right - Some sarcasm is indeed due, mainly since this was
a preparation (friendly) tournament, rather than a decisive one.

    A correction, though -
    Omri didn't have a double-double against (Marcin Gortat's) Poland -
he had one against Italy (Home team of Bargnani, Belinelli & Gallinary).

But more to the point -
Last year in real (money-time) Eurobasket games
in the all-European qualifying rounds, Casspi ranked:
#1 in total points scored (195)
    #1 in 3PT made (25)
    #2 in FG made (69)
    #4 in FG% (60.0%)
    #5 in 3PT% (52.1%!!)

outscoring the likes of Gallinary, Krstic, Erden and more.

So let's still give him the min contract, ;)
    but take him seriously anyway...

Agree, this was a great response. During his 4 years in the NBA, Casspi never played major minutes (at best a bit over 20 MPG). Therefore, his stats must be looked at in that context. Casspi has so far played out his rookie contract and, in my opinion, given good production per buck payed. Now he is playing for the Rockets for min deal. Any positive impact that he may have the coming season will be basically clean revenue for the Rockets.

Casspi, when given the minutes like he got in the EuroBasket, performed very well. Getting minutes in the NBA is a different story and shining in the NBA is still another. I would still say that Casspi, given the chance, shows talent. How that pans out in the Rockets needs to be seen. In a month and a half we'll see some of it in the pre-season games. In any case the Rockets can keep him for 2 years for basically nothing. For the Rockets it's a perfect deal.

    to the OP

for someone who's been "following" Casspi for a while now, you seem to debunk all the "urban legends" with nothing more than dry stats. I guess you haven't actually seen him play that much last couple of years. you make it sounds as if the guy just get's better and better.I wonder how you'll sound when the season ends and Casspi averages 2.7 pts in %41, 1.2 rb, 0.6 stl in 8 min of play. I assume you'll find some stats that makes this look wonderful.

20 and 8 isn't a double double, and metric system isnt an excuse.

I don't think the OP did anything more than give perspective on the urban legends. Caspi has no control over the minutes he plays other than performing on the court. The OP gave stats that show he performed above average when given time but was still having his minutes cut.

Caspi seems like a poor mans Ryan Anderson. I think Morey has a big 1970 looking computer terminal where he types a name on a keyboard that looks like an electric typewriter and out pops little fortune cookie papers with the 5 NBA players that are closest statistically to that player. Morey then checks their contract status and goes to get the cheapest one. Guys like Caspi that for no statistical reason are having their minutes cut are like blood in the water.

Sometimes it turns out they just suck and we cut em loose.
