ok, i know that some on this board think that mo gives his all to get boards and just comes up a fingernail short sometimes. I totally disagree w/ this. The guy doesnt try at all to bring down a board. Tha 3 boards that he was credited w/ yesterday come from pure luck. Ill admit it, i came into the season not liking the prospects of collier too much. But now, i love this guy. He gives u a 110 every nite, and is eager to learn. hes not blessed w/ all tha God given talent, but he at least tries. Mo Taylor on tha othahand, has the perfect body for a four, is super athletic, but still finds a way to be 5 ft away from every rebound. On offense, give him the ball, and he forgets that his name isnt cuttino, and forgets that 4 other players are on his team. I really dont know how the two coexist on tha floor together. Also, note to all rockets players, when u have the option of passing it into stevie to bring the rock up the floor, or passing it to cuttino to do that for you, pick stevie. Hes only your franchise point guard who needs to develop skills at that position anyway. ------------------ Lookin at a 75 year old man in a thong: NASTY Lookin at Shaq hit free throws: "O SH**!"

I'm sorry verse... jerin did no justice to whom with that post? Is ee a reference I'm not picking up on? As for Mo, I'm vigilantly watching his rebound numbers but have decided to give him a month or two on the advice of my peers. I'm betting that his rebounding numbers will not be getting any better and may finish the year below the 6.5 he got with LAC. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/

I can't resist and let this title go into the vaults of the BBS. I cry out as well MO from MO. Or else this guys is going to get the NBA minimum contract next year!!!! Was this the guy who wanted the NBA MAX? The Clips weren't holding him down. He was exploiting the situation in Lala land. It's like those cougar in the old run and shoot era!! Bloated figures. ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.
Vince, Have you even seen the games? The stats may have been in terms of points more in LA than they will be here, simply because he got to shoot and play more. But overall, I am extremely pleased with Mo. Offensively, this guy is the total package. As good as any big man in the game on that side of the ball. This guy has so much potential in terms of being the offensive post threat we need to be a championship contender that it's unreal. Defensively, he is not horrible, and you cannot ask of him anymore than to give 100%, and he is doing that on the rebounding side of things. Just because he's missing by a hair doesn't mean he can't rebound- it's been 9 games for goodness sake! He didn't say he wanted the max- that was his stupid agent David Falk. But if you think after what he's done now that you think he's heading towards the minimum and away from a higher contract, or if you aren't pleased, I have to disagree. I'm very excited about what Mo brings to the table, now just as much as ever. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Looking for next year's Jason Collier or Dan Langhi? From what I have read on the BBS, MO has yet to be a post threat, and has been more of a PF with a jumpshot and a good dribble. I truly believe that if the Rockets are to be successful, they need to get somebody that can actually score in the post. Somebody that can play with their back to the basket. The Rockets have Hakeem now, but after that? No real POST players of any significance. Rockets need big men in the worst way. ------------------ There are 3 kinds of lies: lies, lies, and heypeeisms. -DrofDunkingDonuts
Crisco, If I had no place to even see a score of a game, and just read the comments here, I'd guess we were 0-9. That's how absolutely negative this place has gotten. I've been very impressed with Mo's back to the basket game. Several times he backed in Brand last night, and he has a very nice hook shot turning toward the middle playing with his back to the basket. He does have back to the basket ability if you ask me. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Looking for next year's Jason Collier or Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Well, I hope your impressions of Taylor's game are more accurate than others, because buckets in the post would relieve some of the pressure that guards have had to shoulder and make the game that much easier for them. Mo could mean the difference between playoffs and lottery. So far, he has put up mediocre production. Hopefully he will find his niche in the offense soon. ------------------ There are 3 kinds of lies: lies, lies, and heypeeisms. -DrofDunkingDonuts
C'mon you naysayers Mo doubled his effeort against the Bulls. He's averaging 3 boards per game and he grabbed 6 boards against the Center-less Bulls. That's Mo giving not only 100% but 200%. The 6 boards he got is what Los will get if you play him 20 minutes. ^ Boards is what Kenny can grab in 15 minutes and 6 boards is what an out of shape, injury prone Charles Barkley can get in 1 quarter. I say start Los or Kenny and Bring Mo's fat ass from the bench. He will give us 3 boards per game anyway. And if he comes from the bench he would look productive. ------------------ President of the Sir Charles Barkley Fan Club

I say this post is one of the dumbest I've ever read. What evidence do you have that Kenny or Los can outrebound Mo? Don't give me any stupid stats per 48 minutes- tell me why as a starting PF for most of last year and receiving a ton of minutes could Kenny not outrebound Mo? And hypothetically, let's say Kenny could rebound better. Are you willing to sacrifice limiting the minutes of one of the most offensively gifted big men in basketball to get a couple more boards? If you would, your basketball knowledge is pretty limited. Of course, reading posts like you just posted makes me think that might unfortunately be a true assumption. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! I dont care if he doesnt score as much. I think he needs to concentrate more on hittin tha boards. ------------------ I'ma need more than 6 and a half rebounds a game from the PF
Cat, why are you in such denial about Mo and his pathetic board showing? It's not being ultra-negative; it's being realistic and pointing out a cause for concern. Right now, the Rockets are close to, if not the worst rebounding team. There is not one decent starting PF (except maybe Clifford Robinson if you consider him a PF) in the NBA today who averaged much less than eight boards starting last year. Mo is averaging like three, and his career stats do not show this number to be an anomaly. We can talk about how smooth he is on offense all we want, but do the Rockets need that right now? He's only been needed for like 10 PPG.. A real PF can get that on putbacks alone; he wouldn't need iso's. The Rockets need rebounding from that 4 spot! Mo may be talented, but there is absolutely no excuse for his rebounding!!! [This message has been edited by Oatdog (edited November 15, 2000).]
That's your opinion; but not necessarily a fact. It's there we disagree. Looking at the way Rudy is building this team and the system we have, I would much rather have the offensive powerhouse PF in Maurice Taylor than a rebounding PF with a little offensive game, say like a Danny Fortson. I do believe Mo is giving 100%, and his rebounding will increase. It's been 9 games! However, I do realize he'll never be among the league leaders. But, for the system we have and our current team, I'll take the PF with all the offensive talent in the world and average rebounding over the big time rebounder with limited offensive ability. We were the worst rebounding team in the league during our championship years. That didn't harm us then... ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! We need no rebounds fore we only need to score all the time, lest the weighted importance of the neccesity to board is exponentially lessened to the point at which the aforementioned position is parallel to a position which heeds deemphasis on rebounding. - with assumptions precluding that other team players respond with a heightened rebounding sum taken as a collective effort. ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
roxran- you are either in law school or in charge of the ballot counting in Florida. The Cat - generally agree about Mo. Led by Fortson, the Warriors are the #1 rebounding team in the W.C. From the following, I don't see a direct connection to rebounding and success: REBS/GAME 1 Golden State 49.0 2 San Antonio 43.7 3 L.A. Clippers 43.7 4 Vancouver 42.8 5 Sacramento 42.0 6 Seattle 42.0 7 L.A. Lakers 41.5 8 Phoenix 41.5 9 Portland 40.6 10 Minnesota 40.4 11 Denver 40.0 12 Dallas 39.7 13 Utah 38.5 14 Houston 37.2 Mo is currently the only Rocket in the Top 50 in FG%. THERE IS A STRONGER CONNECTION TO FG% AND SUCCESS: FG%/GAME 1 L.A. Lakers 0.475 2 Portland 0.471 3 Utah 0.470 4 Phoenix 0.456 5 Minnesota 0.456 6 Houston 0.451 7 Seattle 0.449 8 Sacramento 0.447 9 San Antonio 0.441 10 L.A. Clippers 0.440 11 Denver 0.432 12 Vancouver 0.422 13 Dallas 0.421 14 Golden State 0.413 I am sure that some very smart poster is going to provide us with a math formula to discount the above. So what? Other than this BBS, where was it expressed that the Rockets signed Mo Taylor to be a rebounder? ------------------ GATER
It is not the matter of being a rebounder in 2000-2001 as much as thinking about the MAX contract that he wants to sign in the summer of 2001 that is of concern. Mango - your posts are insightful and intelligent so I am sure you will follow this. Regardless of the debate over Mo Taylors abilities, he will likely be signed by the highest bidder (without much regard for what he and Falk think he's worth). Anyone needing a 1st tier PF AND having the ability to pay for one will start with CWebb. The losers in the CWebb derby will then court Mo. If any of the remaining teams think Mo is worth "Maxing" then so be it. As in all the employer/employee salary negotiations, each side will have a starting offer and a range of what is acceptable. If Mo gets in a groove and the Rocks have a solid season, there is higher likelyhood he will lower and the Rockets management will raise until there is deal. I don't see this as a Max offer, but I don't know the extent which other teams covet Mo's abilities. ------------------ GATER
A few things: Mo is not a great rebounder. I am not arguing the need for a good one, just stating a fact. Kenny Thomas is a better rebounder, mostly because of positioning and hustle. Mo has rediculous offensive skills...but He sometimes falls too much in love with his shot - will continue shooting it, despite being double or triple-teamed. Too often, I have seen him simply raise his arms and shoot a 17 footer with no room to accurately make such a shot. He has good post moves, but does not go to them enough - most of this, though, is probably the offense. He usually gets the ball pretty far from the basket. He can drive like crazy. Great ballhandling for his size. Too often he has these great bursts of offense, only to disappear later. Witness the Chicago game: 10 points first quarter, 2 the other 3. Mo's defense is improving game-to-game. Much better than anticipated. He still needs work, nut he is trying. His numbers will go up as he gets more comfortable. He and Kenny will complement each other well, now that it seems Kenny is getting used to his role this year. He more than likely will get a max offer, after Webber is out of the market. Especially if the Rockets do well. ------------------ EZLN
