I had someone install a new thermostat on my water heater a few weeks ago. After he left I noticed the water was way too hot, using my oven thermometer I recorded the water coming out at a scorching 141 degrees!

The location the water heater is in, you can't physically SEE the temperature controls. I have to take my digital camera and snap a picture and look at the picture. The top tank temperature control I turned it to it's lowest setting but the water is still coming out at 141 degrees.

Do I have to adjust the bottom tank as well? In order to do this I'm going to have to take out my dryer and move it out of the way just to adjust that one.

Dude why don't you call someone to take a look at it?

Water heater problems can cause severe problems and burns.

Yeah, you have to adjust both. Sometimes the bottom thermostat is set higher than the upper thermostat. Because heat rises, if the bottom one is set really hot, the water coming out of the faucet can still be really hot as well even if the upper thermostat is turned down low.

Also be aware that if you turn the temperature down too far, it could affect your dishwasher's performance/drying capabilities, but it depends on the dishwasher.

    Darn perplexing!

Seriously, OP, have the chumps who installed it come out and fix the problem. They should do that straight away, and for no charge. They screwed up and have to make it right. Good luck, and RAISE HELL!!

Dammit Behad, that's exactly what I came in here to say :p

That, or maybe something along the lines of "Maybe it's too hot because you're heating hot water"...
