I agree, Marion is simply the man. He's long, he's versatile, he can run like a sprinter, has serios hops, is polishing his offensive game, and heck, the sophomore can play some defense! Just curious . . . between Marion and Rashard Lewis, who would you guys rather see in a Rocket uni? Personally, I would pick the former. Just a point to keep in mind: There was considerable talk of Marion going East this past summer. Several scenarios were played out. The word from Phoenix was that Marion would only be traded if it brought a comparable center(plus, others) in the deal. There were no takers. Also, just to keep it in perspective: Cato is a viable commodity when healthy. He can be athletic when he wants to be. Has excellent defensive skills. Can get aggressive when called on. He has a relatively acceptable price tag for the sparse center spot. But he also is a BYC player. It would cost us dearly for Cato to be included in a trade where we would get a quality player in return. We would have to throw in another player to make it attractive (and that player would have to have start capabilities), then both we and the receiving team would have to be "CBA comfortable" with the BYC aspect. Just for grins: I doubt a Cato(plus) for Marion would ever materialize, but for a moment imagine a front court of Cato, Robinson and Rodgers with Penny and Kidd in back. Formidable!
We should just wait a year on the deal. After Cato leads the NBA in rebounding, his trade value is bound to go up. ------------------
No. Marion already shows more heart than Pippen ever had...and he doesn't cry and refuse to go in the game when he doesn't the the ball. ------------------ Only in America....do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.
Trading Cato would not be wise. Dream can only play limited minutes, and will be injury prone. Collier is going to hit slumps, and who know if he can work through them. Cato is the only Center capable of playing the minutes and having the experiance. Collier would get killed by Ewing and D Robinson on a nightly basis! As bad as we might need a great SF, DON'T Trade Cato.....Unless we get Anna Nichole Smith and a playmate to named later..... ------------------
Marion is an athletic guy that hustles. He may not be overachieving, just playing up to his potential. ------------------ "There are two players carrying the Rockets right now. Hakeem and Olajuwon." Isiah Thomas
Trading Cuttino Mobley for Shawn Marion is a bad deal for both teams. Even though Mobley comes off the bench, such a significant portion of the offense is built around him that it would be extremely difficult to replace him. The Rockets would have to completely throw out significant parts of their playbook if Mobley were no longer on this team and their recent moves to add big men that can shoot from the perimeter would not be as effective. The major emphasis of this offense is for the guards (Mobley, Francis) to create off the dribble and dish to outside shooting big men if the defense collapses. Shawn Marion has a better NBA body and a lot more upside than Cuttino Mobley but this deal just does not make sense for either side. Not to mention ofcourse that Steve would not be too happy if Cuttino were dealt. The Suns would really not have much use for Mobley. They already have two guards in Kidd and Penny that handle the bulk of the ball handling duties. The ideal match for those talents is a long, athletic forward that runs the floor in the open court and plays both ends of the floor. The Suns have that in Shawn Marion, and Cuttino Mobley is more a duplication of talents for them than anything. This whole idea of getting Shawn Marion is just very far fetched. It amazes me more than anything that some posters think that Kelvin Cato is enough to get him. The Mobley-Marion idea just does not make any sense either for both sides. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net [This message has been edited by MManal (edited November 17, 2000).]
Never said id actually do that deal Cat and MManal. just said it'd take a mobley type player w/ cato for them to even consider giving him up. ------------------ --TEX
Does anyone else think that Marion is overachieving so far this season? I expect he'll come back down to earth soon. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
