Just tired of seeing seeing 3 straight 20+ pt games to get my hopes up then 6 games straight of <10pt games, high TO games. He had a brief period in March and the beginning of April where he was consistent but it dropped off a cliff again in the playoffs.
Yes, you are right. Maybe Lin was inconsistent last year...but he was consistently improving through the season. Hope he'll get better next year. 2012-13 82G/82G OCT: 27mpg /7.1ppg /6.3apg /31 fg% /20 3pts% NOV: 34mpg /10.3ppg /6.4apg /37 fg% /26 3pts% DEC: 31mpg /13.8ppg /6.3apg /49 fg% /25 3pts% JAN: 33mpg /12.4ppg /5.5apg /42 fg% /33 3pts% FEB: 32mpg /24.5ppg /6.6apg /43 fg% /42 3pts% MAR: 28mpg /13.8ppg /5 apg /48 fg% /40 3pts% APR: 35mpg /17.3ppg /7.7apg /44 fg% /36 3pts%
I think the OP is missing the point. Lin is not inconsistent if you use his averages as the benchmark. But no fan, whether his or anyone else, uses this benchmark to judge him. For example: "Lin is inconsistent. He puts up 20 points in one game and 10 points in the next." Here, the context is of a fan that thinks Lin should be averaging closer to 20 points than 10. If one were to accept that as a player who averaged 13~14ppg, that both games are normal, such statements would not occur. Another example, a very common one from Lin fans "he didn't do well this game... but there was this other game where Lin went 18/5/8 and shot 50%." Again, the supposition of statements like these is that the star-like statline is more indicative of Lin's actual play than the bad games. So for the most part, Lin fans, haters, Rockets fans in general all have a higher starting baseline for Lin's "normal" play. When really, his "normal" play last season was his season average. That's why the totality of his games average to that number. But the perception is not based on that number. The reason why people don't call superstars "inconsistent" is because their off nights are still accepted. Harden can have a 20/4/4 game and most would not say he's had a horrible night. Even if those numbers are below his average. Because after all, 20/4/4 is still very good. But give Lin a night slightly below his average, say a 10/3/5 game, and all hell breaks loose because those stats just look fugly.
Before the Allstarbreak LIN and after Allstarbreak, was a world of difference. I noticed doubters always ignore the fact that he was recovering from his surgey + adjusting to a new role. These are not excuses.
k BS. Those are excuses. In fact that is what we usually hear. Just be honest. No need to make excuses or blame others. To do so will create a backlash. Doing so puts him apart from the team.
wait recovering from surgery/playing offball when you've never played offball isn't even a remotely acceptable reason?
I've never been thrilled with the "after the all star break" dividing line... it always felt like "Ok, he's playing well. Lets divide it here." That said, he WAS recovering from injury in the beginning of the year. To me, all players get at least a partial pass when that is what is going on. He was playing because he was still the best PG we had, he wasn't playing as well as he could. Let's see what happens now when he isn't recovering.
You better hope you never suffer an injury damaging enough to hinder your career; for example, breaking your hand so that you can barely type, or even jerk off the way you want to...
No point yelling about it here. Please write to Morey and threaten him and the Rockets that, if Lin is not traded by the time the season starts, you will no longer be a Rockets fan, and the Houston Rockets will no longer receive any economic benefits of your fandom. I am sure the Rockets will feel so threatened by the loss of revenue from a big spending fan like you that to appease you, they will immediately rush to trade Lin, even for 10 cents to a dollar. So what are you waiting for? Put your money where your mouth is.
So basically out of every single response to this post, about 3 of them are actually in response to the OP. The rest of them are clearly made by people who either didn't read or didn't understand what lightningbolt took a lot of time to do. Seriously, someone makes a post that's actually about statistics and real analysis, and all he gets in response are a bunch of people who want to hear themselves talk or are blatantly trolling. Hey Clutch/mods, if you guys really want to promote good posters, this thread is a perfect example of the kind of crap you need to clamp down on.
Have I blame anyone the coach other players? those 2 are explanations. Then how can we reason for his improvement after all-star break?
