This is why we can't have nice things. All you mofos streaming Game of Thrones instead of ponying up the $40 for 2 months.

yeah, pretty much. the jig is up. I knew a guy that worked in DRM a while ago, and he thought that industry was a joke. It'll be interesting to see how they plan to enforce this. That'll probably be where a lot of people take exception.

    You've been so disappointing lately.

Instead of blindly supporting your team, learn about the issue.

It is already illegal to pirate copyright material. This law would make it a FELONY to STREAM copyrighted material.

In order to stream content, you need a decent internet connection, software or hardware to stream and a means to distribute. In otherwords, its a very small piece of the grand picture.

The other issue is that its too vague. For example, you can go to ustream.com on your phone, setup an account and start streaming live video from your phone in seconds to an unlimited amount of people. What if you did this at a sportings event and simply wanted to show a buddy of yours a live stream for a minute or so? Guess what. You're now a felon.

in general I have never supported streaming copyrighted information. please stop insults. I have always been against the idea of just cause its on the internet its okay. for instance yes your sporting event broadcast example isn't vague. if you are broadcasting it you are violating that league's rights. even live from your phone. the medium doesn't make a difference.

Why should it be legal to stream video of a game you are at?

I think the point is that it is ALREADY illegal, but this bill creates a felony offense for streaming where illegally recording the same game, then providing the file later gives a much smaller penalty.

I see. So the debate is about whether the felony charge is too severe, not whether this stuff should actually be against the law?

The game is more valuable live than afterwards when you know the results. highlights are available all over when the event is done.

This thread isn't about being legal or not. Its about being a felony.

And I didn't not imply streaming the whole game. As I said, if its a minute or a second or the whole game, its all the same. It would be a felony.

    It is good.

Also the emails that NSA are reading have copyrights too. Hope there is a law to protect those.

YouTube works with copyright holders and copyright companies (like Viacom and Vevo) to actively hunt down members who violate the T.O.S. and upload copyrighted content for profit.

Its what keeps copyright companies from just outright suing YouTube.

There is still a loophole in copyright law that allows you to upload media for creative or educational purposes, as long as you do not profit from it.

I've actually heard a lot of freedom fighters graciously offer that hypothetical deal to HBO's accountants in lieu of the carriage fee and DVD sales; it's the oppressiveness of paying for the other 250 'meaningless' channels that irks these serial TV watchers.

Dammit, BTVGuide has removed all of their free honey links. I don't watch "TV" on a TV. I watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it. Since the goddamned feds won't let me do that with regular cable offerings, I have to go elsewhere. And you REALLY wonder why I dislike the feds? (Disclaimer: I used to be one, so don't bother with the "wingnut anti-govt" BS) If it wasn't for them we'd have a-la-carte programming already and we wouldn't have to worry about this.

Ah well, where there's a will there's a way. New sites are already up and running. ;)

Outfits are already shutting down "free" streaming in anticipation of possible prosecution.

If they can't get it through Congress then they'll simply regulate it into existence, just like everything else they can't actually get passed into law. They are bought and paid for by Hollywood, and Hollywood wants its damned money.

Meh, it was only a matter of time.

A lot of the streams are illegal, we're talking PPVs for UFC events, WWE events, Boxing events etc etc. That's obviously stealing, not sure how stiff the penalty should be (heavy fines) but it's obviously stealing and illegal.

Comcast just better get it's **** together before this happens. Actually that's a great question.

    What will happen first?
*Houston citizens can watch Astros and Rockets games.
*Government starts cracking down on illegal streams.

If it does happen, hopefully NBA.com will stop blacking out Houston games if you buy NBALP Broadband.
