Truth about all that are listed above: They say that they will no longer be Rockets fans if Lin is traded or no longer here. Well I have news for all y'all...

    THEY'RE NOT ROCKETS FANS NOW!!!
They are on the Lin Bandwagon.

I love Jeremy Lin, (and I believe that he is here to stay, & will also improve greatly playing alongside Dwight) but I love my Rockets more than any player. Some others are just fair weather bandwagon fans or player groupies!

I'm a fan of Durant's game, LeBron's game & I've always loved Dwight, but I'd never stop supporting my beloved Houston Rockets, ever.

Please stop the pettiness!!! Ill start by never defending Lin again. That's a promise from a 2012er. Please stop putting down our players unless they truly deserve it. And stop hating on posters based on join date. Go Rockets!!

Right, because everything is black and white, and there's no such thing as a spectrum.

Maybe part of the problem is the overgeneralizing that is being shown in this post right here. All Lin fans have anxiety, resentment, and bad feelings? Really now? And no long-time Clutch posters can ever be racist because of Yao? You sure about that?

It's possible for Lin fans to be entirely reasonable. I'm a Lin fan. Feel free to search all of my posts and tell me when I have ever been unreasonable or blamed his poor performances on others.

It's also possible for someone to make a racist post or comment without being a full-blown black-hanging slave owner. Racism is one of those things that can express itself in ways small and large, and you can say or do something that is racist even though 99.99% of your life goes without a single racist thought.

I think it's pretty clear that the culture of these boards is the responsibility of the moderators (and Clutch). If they want to change the culture, then they need to clamp down on the trolling and suspend or ban the small minority of posters who are making things miserable for everyone else. They also need to figure out how to issue public warnings or infractions against even long-time posters who may step out of bounds every once in a while. (For example, the sarcastic "LOL IN B4 LIN HATERS" posts? They don't help. At all. They make things worse. That one poster may have gotten his rocks off on being super witty and smart and calling it out, but all he's really doing is setting the expectation that you can never have a good discussion without all the BS, and chasing out all the posters who would otherwise participate.)

Otherwise, you're going to get what you have now - the vocal, extreme, asinine minority distorting every single thread beyond reasonable recognition.

I know Clutch cares about this because there used to be a Rep system, and apparently he wanted it to promote good posts and interesting discussion. In case you guys haven't noticed, that rep system was shut down because it basically failed. I wouldn't be surprised if it failed because, were it still in place today, all you would have is all the LOF haters repping each other for trolling and making borderline racist comments and all the LOFs repping each other for spamming threads with line-by-line defenses.

You aren't going to have the kind of culture you want unless you cultivate it. That means both promoting good posts and pruning problem users. If that kind of active moderation is just not in the cards, then these message boards are just going to continue to be at the mercy of the repetitive, no-life extremists.

Good post. Easier said than done but I agree with nearly everything you said. I think, however, that each individual has as much responsibility for the state of Clutchfans. I've known that arguing online rarely if ever comes to a good end and i, like more than a few Lin supporters I know, will stay away from defending Lin from now on as it just begets more criticism of Lin. Ill just hope for haters to disappear once people stop defending Lin and they can criticize in peace. Ultimately, Lin will end up doing what he does, regardless of who's hating or defending him. And more importantly, the Rockets will hopefully have a successful season and the hate will die down.

I would not follow the Rockets.

    But at least:

    1) I have the balls enough to admit it.
    2) I don't pretend to be a Rockets 'fan'. I'm a follower.
    3) I don't sit there and pretend I know what's better for the Rockets organisation than other true Rocket "fans". How can you when you're only a "fan" only because of a single player.

If you want to hate on the extremist Lin fans, fine. They're damn annoying. But don't hate those that follow the Rockets because of one player. Not all of us are bad apples.

    Absolutely

Absolutely. I've been a rockets fan long before lin got here. I didn't support the trade that brought him here. He is, & always will be a below average PG

Your posts sound reasonable. Please note that I did not raise any objection to people praising Lin; I raised objections to people making accusations against the team and the fans.

As for LOF haters repping each other, I've been here for 7 years with 1600 posts or something. I have 2 reps. Maybe it's because I suck way more than average, but if you assume I am just an average poster, you can see I was not getting reps thrown at me over the first six years. Is that because I didn't have Lin to "hate on" yet?

I don't hate Lin, by the way. I do dislike how the board has changed. You can see, even Clutch was catching **** last season.

If I had a choice between trading Lin fans for LMA, or trading Tinman for LMA....I'd trade you in a heartbeat.

    A. Who care
    B. That's not necessarily true. There are still some YOF's posting on this board even after all these years. I think it's safe to say they are Rockets fans.
    C. Stop being a douche-bag.

Congrats! I always find it ironic when diehard fans need to make it clear they are "better" than bandwagon fans, not realizing that every diehard fan was at one time a bandwagoner.

In 1982 I didn't even know the Rockets existed. I was a Knicks fan because that's what my dad was. Then Phi Slamma Jamma happened and I became an Hakeem only fan. Then he picked by Houston so I started paying attention to the Rockets. So I was a bandwagoner right?

Am I still a bandwagon fan 31 years later?

If you love your Rockets so much, why don't you help the organization by helping them expand the fan base and passion for the team instead of belittling them so they resent the team?

Firstly, I don't hate the so called LOF, if anything it is great that Clutch has more members here on Clutchfans & that the Rockets have an international identity that has brought more fans to my beloved Rockets.

I was just pointing out the fact that if people were willing to stop supporting the Rockets because their favourite player was traded, then the fact is that they are not true Rocket fans, but, as much as I hate this moniker, Lin Only Fans.

No harm in pointing out the truth.

Secondly, this isn't a peeing contest, & my aim wasn't to be a douche bag.

I posted the last few posts from my hospital bed after getting an ankle reconstruction, and being jabbed with morphine & OxyContin. So if I sounded like a douche, my apologies...I'm not usually smacked out on pain killers.

Reality is, I would love for Lin to have a breakout season, become an All-Star & lead us to multiple championships...don't forget that I was one of his biggest supporters when he was first here, and predicted his Linsanity breakout during the now infamous GlenRice donkey's butt kissing bet here on Clutchfans.

I can see Lin averaging around 15-16 points & 8-9 assists this season, all going well. The kid has game, he was just injured last season & being misused as an off the ball spot up shooter in many of the games

    That's all.

    Read my sig...

Who knows. Some of us have prophetic visions. We knew a kid called Jeremy Lin would one day become a Rocket. So we signed up on CF 11 years ago to be an undercover Rockets fan just so we could come out for war once the reality of Linsanity has materialized.
