Pretty much my situation, too. Nobody knew what I was talking about when I first went in. I told them, and got a "that's pretty cool." reply. We'll see if they call today.
It went on sale again on BestBuy.com with the Netflix promotion yesterday so I got one. Still haven't received a promo code or anything, but I took 8 million screenshots in case they try to disallow the promo.
If it ever becomes this simple: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/D8-z2E8BwTU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The primary interest I have with this device is video game emulation. Anyone try this yet at all? I know there are couple of youtube vids just recently posted showing some very early results (NES emulator and GB emulator).
You can root the Chromecast just like you can root Android phones. The modding community for the Chromecast is going to be insane soon.

I did something ridiculous the other night. We've been using Chromecast to play videos from my PC by dragging the video to a tab in Chrome, then casting it to the TV. However, this requires me to get up and go do that on my computer. So, in my infinite laziness, I installed Splashtop on my phone and computer. Now, I can control my computer with my phone, and drag the video to a Chrome tab on my computer, then cast it to my TV... all from my phone. I was amused.

What kind of audio signal are you getting from Chromecast? As stated in the X1 thread, all I can get out of my X1 box is 3:2 that doesn't get to my surround speakers, *the surround option will not select. apparently a known and "unfixable" flaw edit: Found this: http://www.androidauthority.com/chromecast-tips-tricks-video-250176/ And we come to our final tip, a tip for those who struggled with the same problem as I did in my review. My DLP TV in the living room does have a 5.1 stereo system, but it doesn’t have an audio output available and thus requires the audio signal to come straight from the source. But it still looks like you are nor going to get 5:1 From the Chromecast help site it says it will: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/3210064?hl=en Learn More: Cast-enabled page; use controls in the page for an optimal experience. Tab Projection vs. Direct Playback Tab Projection with the Google Cast extension allows you to mirror the contents of your Chrome Browser while Direct Playback, the Cast button in apps and on web players, sends the video directly from the internet to your TV, without first passing through your device. When both options are available, choosing direct playback will increase the quality of your video. Tab Projection is limited to 720p and stereo sound Direct Playback supports 1080p and 5.1 audio Supported sites like YouTube, Netflix, Pandora, and Google Music will perform best using direct playback. I bumped this because I want to hear what chromecast users are getting for an audio signal... please.
Chromecast is SUPPOSED to get 5.1, but a lot of users are having trouble getting it. Myself included.
I just heard about this. What is the difference between this and Roku 3 which i just ordered a few days ago?
Roku has more app support for now. Chromecast can also cast a tab on your TV from Google Chrome on your computer. This is fairly new so it'll be a while before it can match the app support the Roku has. The only way to play local video with Chromecast is to play it on your computer through Google Chrome and not all file formats are supported. Not too sure how many formats are supported on the Roku. Basically Chromecast is still growing with limited app support but it has a lot potential for other things because it's built on Android.
Hey guys, quick question; Does my TV need to have integrated WiFi? It's a HD TV etc etc and I already use it to play video through my computer with an HDMI cable.

And THAT is why I want this instead of a Roku. Every dev in the Android Community is going to embrace this device and do amazing things with it. And for a LOT less money, especially with the Netflix promo.
