Last year with the Francis thing there were links, too. One was supposedly from espn.com, but instead of espn, it was esBn. Just a little info for those of you that weren't around back then.
After falling for it 3 straight years (I'm a slow learner), I finally knew right off for the first time and just laughed when I saw a new headline before I even read what it was. I was anticipating and waiting for this one for weeks. Regardless of how many years you do it in a row, Clutch, it never gets old. First of all, there's always new people who didn't see it before (a whole HELL of a lotta those this year), and dumbasses like me who'll fall for it several times in a row... Usually by just completely forgetting what day it is. Plus, then there's just the enjoyment it brings to people who are already expecting it. I still remember the horrible amounts of depression I felt when I saw the headline about Francis last year. Everything was going badly at that point, so it couldn't've come at a worse time, hehe. And I remember the... confusion I felt when I saw Sheryll Swoopes wanted to play for the Rockets. Damn you, Clutch.
DAMN! I was in shock there for about 5 minutes. What with the Iraqi war, rotten economy, the spread of SARS, the state of Moochie's hair, there wasn't much space left for bad news... At least this makes us realize how much enjoyment and relief from reality (along with the occasional aggravation) the Rockets and Yao has provided us for these last few months.
Gatorade curse??? There might be a Gatorade curse on Jeter, Yao and Payton Manning. I know that Yao isn't really out for the season, but the elbow to Yao's neck almost caused an injury. Now, Jeter is out for a month. Something's gonna happen to Manning, too.
Damn, I went numb for awhile..then I thought ......It cant happen, Y? coz this dam thread sez so...... good one! but haha!!!!!
Considering how many years I've frequented this site, I should have known better. Last year's and the one from the year before didn't faze me, but I fell for this year's line, hook, and sinker. Still, I much prefer feeling like the dumbass I am than the story actually being true. Touche, Clutch, et al.
Clutch, you're gonna have to buy me a new defibrillator -- I just wore one out after reading your story. As a webmaster who played his own prank today ( http://www.dailyprobe.com ), I should've known better. Instead, I sat here, banging my head against my desk and wondering why the hell espn.com and cnnsi.com hadn't picked up on this story yet. Kudos. And I'm serious about the defibrillator.
you sick sick b*stard. That's the meanest thing I've ever seen. I was kind of skeptical at Yao's ability but last night he proved me wrong so I tried to find out more about him today. Man, it was sick!!!
I'm glad most people enjoyed the joke - it made not getting much sleep that night worth it. It really created a big stir here, and from what I'm told elsewhere as well. I'm actually surprised a Chinese newspaper didn't plagiarize it and post it as legit. Thanks everyone for all the comments You can find the official clarification and links to past ClutchCity.net April Fools jokes here: http://www.clutchcity.net/news.cfm?NewsID=1096
Well done, Clutch. Yesterday I was visiting a Chinese bball bbs site , a poster there said he visited Clutchcity.net and learned that yao's done for this season. So I came here and was really shocked by reading the story. At that time I really believed it was true and that made me very frustrated. But seconds later when I went back to that Chinese site and was about to put a complete translation of your report on that site, I found there were already some posts there telling people that was just an April fool's joke. I laughed so hard at meself for a while and just for curiosity, I went through all major Chinese news websites yesterday. I didn't even find a single word on yao's injury. That means, no one there believed the story. It seems most of Chinese people know what April 1 means already. well, apparently I was not among them. At least not for this year.
I couldn't wait to get to work and check Clutch city to see what this years April fools joke was going to be. But by the time I got to look at the site, I forgot it Was April fools. I fell for it for about 5minutes before I realized it was a joke.-the Best one yet.
No thats not what happened. Elie had already become a spur and the joke was that the site decided to follow him to san antonio and become a spurs fan site. I fell for that one and didnt visit again for at least a month.
Heh, as a new member, you got me good Clutch. I came here cause I had heard about older jokes, and I wanted to see what would be up. Then I saw about Yao's injury and all the April Fools mentality flied out the window. I expected it and still fell for it. Oh well, I was able to fool a few people with it too...so it's all good. BTW - Is there a way to get those older jokes fixed...I wanna see what they were, but the only ones that work ar 2003,2002, and 2001.
I'm not sure if there is because this server is fairly recent and I think a lot of info was lost on the switch. And then of course there was the switch from .com to .net back in 99 I think. And then there was an even older board back in 96 or 97 way before I got here.
