Wow..totally out of the blue. I really like Adam Clanton (even though I'm a huge baseball fan and he doesn't like it) and I really like Lance Z. When paired together recently, I thought it was entertaining radio. My bet would be that's what's coming to the morning drive on 790.
I don't think M/A are weak on sports.. if anything they can sometimes get too in-depth on a sports topic (that can back-fire). They just need to be well rounded and keep the audience. Matt Thomas is underrated, IMO. He talks plenty enough sports... but he's not going to get wrapped up in a debate and talk for 10 minutes about a single topic. He'll spread it around... he'll also get his callers involved well. I dunno, guess I'm just more entertained by his show... and more so when there's mostly good sports to talk about. In the end, its a numbers game... and you can't say they weren't given a fair shot
Funny since Matt and Adam MADE 790 after monsters of the midday garbage and now they dump them. Pathetic.
Perhaps Matt/Adam just need a change of scenery. They'e been in Houston forever... have either of them had a major job outside of Houston? Could give them a different perspective on things... and can only lead to improvement.
I feel the worst for Matt since he's been begging to talk about a Rockets team in contention for years and now this...
I disagree with those guys a lot with their football takes but those my boyz, yo! 790 aint about dis life! =( I don't get it, they had the best morning show.
Yeah, it would have been fun listening to the show all basketball season because they are the two most passionate/knowledgeable about the Rockets in town. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to them during the playoffs and around the Dwight signing.
Really unfortunate to hear, I only started listening to sports radio in 2010, and specifically only their morning show. I would guess this move was planned to happen once NFL got into gear again. Lance's football knowledge is strong enough to hold a show, and the best thing is he can talk about the league and not just the Texans. He'll probably even come up with a fantasy segment.
Please don't stretch out in the trenches show. Sucks about them being fired, I really e joyed their morning show.
While I wasn't campaigning for lengthening their show, it is better than anything on 610. My thinking was that with a football heavy show like In the Trenches, it would make some sense to temporarily give them a bigger slot with football season here.
One of the worst shows on radio, just awful. Also, with this I'm pretty much completely done with AM radio. I loathe 610, I gave up on 1560 around 2 years ago and that ESPN drone **** is terrible. I only had the I ♥ Radio App to listen to M/A while I'm getting ready for work, will now be deleted. I'm sure I'll find something to replace it with on Sirius, but this seriously sucks. 790 Just fired them outa the blue and removed all podcasts or anything related to their show from the website immediately? Yeah, not a fan. I also have outgrown Lance's tired **** ever since his Clutchfans rampage a few years back. No interest at all. I guess my 3 decades of listening to AM radio have now ended. Thank baby Jesus for Sirius/XM.
I really hope not. I love football, but I love basketball and baseball too...and it wouldn't hurt me to hear them mix in a bit of boxing (part of why I like Lance). A show that is ALWAYS about football, 24/7 365 is a bit much for me.
Funny, because in the Houston market, outside of Charlie, Wex is probably the most analytical person of the whole bunch, radio or tv. Matt Thomas' show is fun, but it is more offending of "non-sports" subjects than any other show on 790. Disappointing move, and while I didn't see this coming in particular (I was expecting a totally different move somewhere else on the station later this year actually), it's pretty clear why it was done, for mostly the same reason. Sucks. And unfortunately the available seats for local sports radio have begun to dry up, with 1560 cleaning house over the past 2-3 years, 610 being fine with appealing to the lowest common denominator, and 790 obviously thinking they're not needed. This sucks.
Doesn't look like Lance is going to the mornings: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-partner="tweetdeck"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/Alex_Skandalis">@Alex_Skandalis</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/MJ4Sports">@MJ4Sports</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/awexler">@awexler</a> I'm going to the mornings?</p>— Lance Zierlein (@LanceZierlein) <a href="https://twitter.com/LanceZierlein/statuses/363020824862670850">August 1, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
