Got a great job opportunity with one of the largest healthcare organizations in the country. I'm starting in a few days. I have friends from college who live in DFW area , but I would love to get some advice from some people on this forum.

    Thanks in advance !

North Dallas and parts of Richardson are nice. Garland can be kind of ghetto in certain areas. If your single I'd live in Addison.

Second living in Addison if you're single, but there are some so-so areas around there as well.

Live in The Woodlands and commute. No job is worth living in Dallas for.

I made the move from Houston to Plano because of work and the area is nice. The drivers are more clueless than in Houston so that takes some getting used to. Which company are you working for if you don't mind me asking, OP?

You nailed it on the drivers.

Plano is nice in that it's the gold standard for white-collar suburbs. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just clarifying.

Do you need a real estate agent? My mother-in-law works in real estate in that area and sometimes helps people find apartments. Send me a PM and I'll send you her contact info.

There is a chance I may be moving with my wife to DFW in the near future. I am open to the Ft. Worth area if something stands out, but I think I'd prefer Dallas. We are early thirties and just want to rent an apartment or house in the $1000-1200 range. Commute is not an issue. We aren’t interested in nightlife, but still like to go to restaurants, museums, live music on weekends. We're looking for safe, nice areas not too far out. I may be in DFW this weekend to scope things out. Lots of Addison suggestions. Any particular part of Addison we should look at?

Honestly man...early 30's and married? I'd live closer to Fort Worth. Better museums, nightlife is more laid back and less pretentious. If you're looking to rent, you can rent homes in Hurst, Bedford or Euless for a reasonable price. Lists of nice apartments in the area as well. Addison is good if your single and in your 20's...but not so much for married couples your age. (Im Not knocking you age - I'm 40). We're in Hurst. Good luck.

They are trying to build around the Richardson and Garland DART stations, but still in the early stages. I guess Addison is the nicest nearby area. And commute is always an issue in Dallas, horrendous traffic all around.

Key question is: what parts of Houston do you like? You can probably find a similar area in DFW.

Coming from Houston, I would take FW over Dallas any day. Lots of good food, the Museums are top notch in the area, and there's always live shows in Sundance Square and other outside stuff in the summer. The zoo is pretty good, the botanical gardens are beautiful.

Dallas is way more 'metropolitan'. Lots of cookie cutter buildings, urban-type crime, and overall people are pretentious.
