I need to buy fitted suits. Don't usually wear them so don't know where to go.

What are the best styles out nowadays?

What's your budget? I'm a fan of SuitSupply and J.Crew's Ludlow line.

SuitSupply starts at $399 (half-canvas, Super 110) and can run up to $1000 for a full canvas Super 150s wool suit. Craftsmanship is excellent for the price, and I'm a fan of their Napoli cut (fitted at the waist, high armholes, soft padded shoulder). Beware though, their sleeves come with functional buttonholes which limits how much the sleeve can be shorted, and shortening them generally requires your tailor to go through the sleeve which is both difficult and expensive. They have an in-store made to measure option for around $750 I believe, but their nearest store is in Dallas.

J.Crew's suits run around $600-700 (can usually get them on sale when J.Crew runs a site-wide promotion) for their worsted wool suits. They're similar to SuitSupply's Napoli, maybe a bit more fitted and certainly narrower lapels. Half canvas construction and Super 120s wool I believe. They come in a single vent or double vent, if you have a preference.

If you're looking for online made-to-measure options, I've heard Black Lapel is pretty decent.

If you're ever in China you can get a really nice custom made suit for like $100.

Go to a legit boutique if you want a well made custom - a. Taghi, m. Penner, etc.

I don't understand. You're not going to get it tailored?

Just snagged two brand new Brooks Brothers Black Fleece suits on ebay for $420 each. I would recommend that route if you know your measurements well.

Good advice. Quality suits at a reasonable price.

Get some Allen Edmunds shoes white you are at it.

Suit and shoes should both last more than 20 years (at least mine have ;)).

My only suggestion is not jos a banks. It's cheap but you get what you pay for. Their stuff never fits me, their tailors are horrible and can't get anything right
This, best fitting suit I've ever had

That's pretty funny, I have a couple of nice suits but most of my everyday stuff for work comes from Jos. A Bank. I've never had an issue with the quality. Yeah, they're made for fat guys, but I've never had an issue when I've taken them to my own tailor for alterations.

YSL doesn't really exist anymore except in cosmetics I believe.

It's Saint Laurent now that Hedi Slimane is at the helm.
