Ok a couple of months back I purchased a top of the line IBM thinkpad. (main reason I was gone for a year was because I no longer had regular computer access.)

Anyhoo, I got Roadrunner, and this thing kicked butt for the first month.

Nowadays, however, the damn thing has stuff I can't figure out how to uninstall, it can be slow as hell, (except for movies) and the thing freezes up constantly so that I have to reboot. Annoying as all hell!

Just seeing what suggestions I should try to rectify the problem.

Maybe it's possessed. I recommend a good old fashioned exorcism.

Without knowing anything else it sounds like a software problem to me. Here are some random suggestions that may help or be entirely useless.

Try defragging your hard drive.

updating windows,

uninstalling all of the crap you dont use,

see if any programs are running in the background that shouldnt be and run an anti spam program like Ad-Aware (i think it may be out of date)

Oh, and it's lovely that I'm writing a three paragraph post and right when I'm almost finished the computer decides it's not responding!

Is there an icon for I want to beat the **** out of this stupid computer.

I feel bad for the Shuttle Columbia, but NASA might have had a point. We're trying to shove to damn much into a small area.

Kilgore: Uninstalled everything I could

Defragging to me sounds like an HBO 80's puppet show.

Is there anything else out there that's better?

I keep getting these Save Now popups, half the time when I'm not even on the net. Does anyone know how to get rid of those?

It not the same as Fraggle Rock but it may not be quite as cool :)

Open up the "my computer" thingy and right click on your hard drive icon and select "properties" The click on the "tools option at the top.

If you try it I would suggest running it before you go to sleep. It may not do much at all and with the luck you are having it will likely just make you computer lock up.

I was hoping that someone would mention something better since i am too lazy to look for it myself. It doesnt seem like they have offered an update to the shareware version in quite a while.

I like "Spybot Search and Destroy" personally. It's free, and I've never heard a bad thing about it.

Add/Remove Programs won't get rid of Weatherbug? If you've deleted parts of it but not others, you might have to install it again before you can delete it.

You might also want to get rid of programs running at startup (like this weatherbug garbage).

I don't know what version of windows you have, but my guess would be XP. I am pretty certain XP has msconfig. Click start, go to Run and type "msconfig" in the box and press enter. That'll bring up a screen with lots of stuff on it. One of the tabs is called "Startup". Click on it. That gives you a listing of all your programs running at startup. I'd get rid of everything that isn't absolutely necessary.

Here's a good page on how to use msconfig.

I doubt this will solve all of your problems, but I have a feeling this will help.

Vengence is right. (that sounds strong). If you have that crap weatherbug, there's prolly other crap on your disk.

A : get ad-aware and kill everything ad-supported.
B : run ms-config and kill everything you don't need in start-up.
C : you have a virus-check, no?
D : Defrag your disk - under programs - accessories, disk defragmenter. Also use disk cleanup.
E : take it to a shoppe (local store) and let them tune it up and add memory.

Good luck.
