Well, you need to learn to cook somewhat if you want to save money on food. Eating out, especially lunches at work, can really chip away at your finances if you are on a strict budget.

The interweb can assist in recipes for food. Of course, you can always survive on sandwiches, ramen, spaghetti, eggs, etc...

Regarding staying in shape...find a cheap gym. Or use the workout facilities at your apartment complex or just go jogging and do exercises at home (pushups, situps, etc...)

Each alot of veggies. Lot's of greens. If you can't cook then just blend em into a green shake.

For living, everybody knows how to live a healthy life. In fact, the cheapest/most valuable thing doesn't cost a penny. It's called discipline.

Walk everyday, get up at a fixed time. Don't slack when working out.

Food is only 30% of the equation. THERE is no way to live a healthy life without effort. On that same note, it's pointless to live period without any effort involved.

Eat whole grain cereal and skim milk 1-2 meals a day. My personal favorite at the moment:

Delicious and Nutricious! And relatively cheap, if you measure your serving sizes and don't eat the whole box in a day or two.

Find a copy of Insanity or P90x and do that, supplemented with running. There are also tons of workout routines on the internet.

Best way to keep your body full would be to snack throughout the day...5 or so small meals instead of three big ones. I don't personally like to do that myself but I make sure I'm not getting to the point where I'm really hungry. I've been doing good eating breakast (most important), lunch, snack and dinner.

Just stay away from a lot of processed foods...you can find tons of easy and quick recipes on sites like allrecipes.com.

easiest, cheapest and healthiest way by far are protein smoothies. It's also the quickest way to make breakfast.

Invest in a good blender, and buy fresh.

regarding lunch: I think this is the key to savings. You can waste a lot of money getting into the crowd of co-workers who eat out for lunch everyday. It's easy to fall into that lazy way to eating lunch. It's a great way to socialize at work, but you'll need to pack a lunch for savings and health.

The frozen chicken breasts by the bag aren't that expensive, and are pretty easy to make (I think they even have some pre-seasoned). Add some green beans and a salad and you're good to go for cheap healthy meal. You can even use the leftovers to make a chicken salad the next day at work for lunch.

Staying extremely healthy and strict with your finances will eventually get boring, so make sure to try and change it up as much as you can.

Its awesome that you want to start saving money now - Most people never even think about saving money until they've been in the job force for a few years - and by then they've lost A LOT of potential compound interest dollars.

For eating: Fresh foods are actually cheaper to buy than process foods and fast foods - You just have to make time to cook/learn to cook them. Eat a piece of fruit with each meal, or start the morning with a fruit smoothie and eggs. You can easily make a healthy fruit smoothie with just 4 ingredients - I use about a cup of ice, a banana, some strawberries and orange juice (buy the can orange juice and mix it..its cheaper than a bottle). Cook large portions, and cook 3 different meals on Sunday - that way you have food for the rest of the week and you don't have to cook...just reheat. I know a family of 4 that spends about $80 a week on groceries because the mom cooks several meals on Sunday evenings to last the week - and its all good stuff, no processed stuff.

Food aside, since you are just starting out...do yourself a favor and read this

I know I've endorsed this book MANY times on here, but it really will give you a great head start especially at your age. If you can, find a church or community center that also offers his 13-week course "Financial Peace University" and take that class. Its only once a week, but its well-worth the time and money.

As far as working out - If your apartment complex has a gym, use that or just work out at home. Jogging, situps and pushups will do wonders for you and its free. If you're worried about the impact of running on your joints, then by some inline skates and skate a few miles several times a week - you'll get all the benefits of running without the impact on your knees.

Also, take your lunch to work every day - you can make your own meal for about $2 a meal on average - but if you go out to eat, you'll spend $8-$10 each day. Over a month..thats $160-$200 vs. $60 a month if you take your lunch.

Last, resist the temptation of buying a new car just because now you have a job. If you have to finance something (other than a house) then you really cannot afford it. Keep your current car and save up - and spend cash on a decent used car later.
