Just wondering if this had been brought up and what y'alls opinion might be. There was talk at the beginning of the season on this board about how Rudy might be on the hot seat if we didn't make the playoffs. So if we don't do you think Les will can him? And if not do you think his illness might influence the decision? I for one don't think he'll be fired, it would be a horrible PR move, Rudy T is well respected by the team, and the entire NBA. Thoughts?

He would not have been on the hotseat this year if he had not made the playoffs.

Les will not can him this year.

The illness will not affect the decision.

    blah blah blah.

    Actually,

I think the cancer may have saved his job. If the Rocks did not make the playoffs this year and continued to underachieve, I think Les would have fired him.

Now that Rudy has cancer, you can't fire him.

I think the cancer bought Rudy one more year.

Based on the way Larry Smith is going now we may not need RudyT anymore. Larry Smith is definity a threat to RudyT's job.

For starters, I never believed that Rudy had to make the playoffs in order to keep his job. I'm willing to bet that Alexander has a more sophisticated way of judging performance than some simple benchmark.

Secondly, I don't think the Rockets would suffer much bad PR from firing Rudy, because they wouldn't be blatant about it. They'd probably either ask Rudy to resign or to take a front-office position. Then it would look like Rudy, not the Rockets, was the agent in the change. They'd spin a story about how the cancer was a wake up call, or that it was a lingering threat or something. That he can't keep dealing with the stress of coaching. Rudy would cooperate, being the classy pro he is.

Third, the whole thing is moot because WE WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!

I was not really serious about that take. Rudy, CD and Les have a convenant. That is all I can say.

The Rockets were in eighth place, coming off a big win against Phoenix after Rudy's last game. If we don't make the playoffs, it's not his fault.

Actually, I think Rudy's malady can give an easy out, if Les wants a new coach (LS or anyone else). Rudy would likely take the graceful position, he is Rudy after all, and go along with 'it's best for me etc etc'.

This has to be the quote of the year, right next to that thread that said that Yao Ming is 7-5 but is really 6-7 or something like that. Classic!!
