Im really sick of him playing with the ball, not shooting but making passes. He is the leader, he should be taking most of the shots. I think that the PG role he has is not his game, he should switch to sg and see how his game becomes there. Francis at the PG spot is going to be hard for him to shoot alot of shots. I want Steve to avg around 20 shots a game. Steve either needs to shoot the ball more as a pg or change his position.

Cant happen, Steve does not have the size to play that position. If we were in the weak and pathetic Eastern Conference like the Sixers are, we could run that experiment and be a respectable team. However, the Sixers are never going to win the big one with their current core of players as they just give up way too much size in the backcourt.

Can you imagine what would happen with a small backcourt of Moochie and Francis? They would get posted up like crazy and the Rockets interior defense just is not good enough to cover that up.

Francis wants to play the PG position and Rudy T is going to let him continue to develop in that role. Learning the PG spot takes TIME. We're talking a couple of yrs not a couple of months.

Calvin Murphy is retired. Let's talk about players that are active in the league today.

The only reason it wouldn't work is because we don't have a taller player to play point. Yes, Allen Iverson is short for a SG, but he defends the opposing team's PGs. Eric Snow is taller, plays point on offense and defends the 2s.

Vinnie Johnson, Joe Dumars, and Isaih Thomas, didn't they win a couple of championships?

Come on, it is not about height, it is about skill, though I would still take the taller player if they both have equal talent.

Dakota, your talking about teams and players OVER a decade ago. The game is different now than it was then. Plus, the Pistons had a very good defensive frontline that could cover up for their guards, the Rockets just dont. Teams with small backcourts just have too many matchup disadvantages in the playoffs in the modern NBA esp in the West. The playoffs is a game of matchups and you dont want to be exploited in the half court set when the transition game becomes less important.

This was a subject that I would constantly get into arguments with people here in NY. All my New York friends kept telling me before he came to Houston, that Francis is a better 2 guard than point. They contend that he played that position in college and even go further to say that the Rockets are wasting his talents at the pg spot. At first, I thought they were all on crack. However, in light of what I'm seeing with the Rockets, maybe it is better to have him work the 2 spot. I don't know what the answer is really but something has to be done.

What do we do with Mobes and Anderson then. You want Mobes to play the pg? [IMG]

This idea isn't so stupid , Francis needs to score , He needs to shoot , Not throw the ball into the waiting hands of Kenny Thomas for a brick . If Francis was moved to the 2 guard we could let Norris and Mobley split the time at PG . The one thing that would concern me would be Steve's Defense over Shandon's , Shandon is a fair defender while Francis seems to take chances . Plus We Dont need Shandon and Walt playing the 3 .

What the Rockets should do is forget about giving Mo the big money, get a capable rebounder/defender at the 4 (Jerome Williams, anyone?) and then pick up Lamar Odom who could split the ball handling duties with Francis. This way, we would be able to fully capitalize on Francis' offensive skills without having to switch him to 2-guard, where he would be mauled on defense. Just my humble opinion . . . The

and then pick up Lamar Odom

Oh ya that is just so easy. We can just tell the Clippers to give us Odom for free. Maybe we'll just send them Bullard for being so cooperative.

He grew up as as point guard, has the mentality of a point guard, and always will be a point guard. Like it or not, he's our man at the point position. He's very young by NBA standards, he's unschooled, and he's still learning how to play the game. This is the reality of the NBA. You've got to pay your dues and learn. It's the only way. There is no easy road to the championship. Ask every great player how the process works and they will tell you, you've got to fail before you can succeed. He will be a great point guard in our system if he wants to be.

just because he had two bad games does not mean he cant play a position. and thats the last thing i want, i dislike me myself and iverson greatly and really would not like to see steve even play like him.

Stevie is a good pg for now. But in a couple of years he is going to be the best pg playing. He hasnt been playing organized bball that long, only like 4 or 5 years now. Why should we slow his progress in learning his true position? We have a great combo at sg anyway. And really no matter what position Stevie is at, opposing teams defensive plans are going to be to get the ball out of his hands. So guys like KT are going to have to prove they can hit the big shot for us to win.

Too bad Gary Payton can't get 20 shots per game for the Sonics, since he plays PG. [IMG]
