Maybe Charles Barkely was right after all. Will Yao score 19 points in one of the final 9 games?

Did Barkley predict that yao would NOT score 19 points in every SINGLE game? Didnt yao prove him wrong already? If yao scores 19 pts in nets game, would you ask the same question again in any other game? You can always question whether yao will score 19 pts in the next game, but pls dont use Barkley as reference because he was WRONG. Period.

I don't mean anything personal about this, but why should I take this inteview seriously?

I thought Chinese journalists have big credibility problems, and if so, why should I give any of these posts about interviews with Yao the time of day?

Are you not generalizing a bit too much my bro?

What if an "alien" read some of Dicky V's pieces (whic I think lack credibility) and just conclude based on his or her view of Dicky V alone that American journalists have a credibility problem?

I don't think Smith is resting Yao for the playoffs. Whether he plays well or poorly, our chances of beating Dallas is pretty slight. In the meantime, we're fighting Phoenix tooth and nail just to get into the playoffs. I think we want to spend everything we've got on getting into the playoffs, even if there's nothing left in the tank for Dallas.

I think the reason he didn't return was because Cato shot 6 for 7 and had 6 blocks. Why take him out when he's playing so well?

As for the frustrating conversation DoD was having: Yao was saying he didn't like to get the ball in the low post and have to score with his back to the basket, but Smith is having him do that. Yao would prefer to catch the ball while he's cutting and shoot on the move. Posters have often complained that our guards did not pass the ball to Yao. Dunk was pointing out that in many of these instances, if such a pass did occur, it would put Yao in a low-post, back-to-the-basket scoring situation (which he doesn't like) as opposed to a cutting to the basket situation that Yao does prefer.

So, next time you see Yao in the low post, Dunk might say, think about how Yao doesn't like operating in the low post before you criticize the guards for not passing it to him there. Or, next time you see Yao not in the low post, don't criticize the coaches for not plopping him in there. He wants to cut, he doesn't want to post up. Personally, I'm glad Smith has him in the low post, even if Yao doesn't like it. You learn by doing and the low-post scoring is something we definitely want Yao to be good at.

Yao needs to reach down between his legs, grab his tethered sack, and go up strong.

Check em if ya got em boys.

I don't think Yao was saying he doesn't like playing the low post or playing with his back to the basket. As I understand it, he simply said that he doesn't like to ISO and he doesn't like an offense that lacks ball movement. He saide he doesn't like clear outs, but he likes to get the ball as soon as he gets in the 3 second area so that he can make a quick move instead of having to pound the ball, ISO-style trying to back his man down. I agree with him in that I don't think this team is at its best when clearing out to isolate one player--whether that player be in the post or on the perimeter. Yao simply wants to get the ball sooner and have some off-ball movement and the freedom to pass the ball to the open teammate like Rudy T was allowing him to do.

I think we just have a semantics issue. What you've described in this quote about what Yao does not like, I'm calling low post. But, that's neither here nor there. The important point is that Yao holding the basketball somewhere in the vicinity of the basket is not necessarily a scoring opportunity. Everyone wants the guards to dump the ball into Yao, but -- to be effective -- he needs to have the right set of conditions when he gets the ball. If he were good in the situation I have low post, it wouldn't matter how he got the ball so long as he got it. But, he says he's not good at that.

i am skeptical of these interviews. his speech is totally different in these chinese interviews. he is very humble and more humorous in the american interviews. he has a different tone in these chinese interviews. does anyone have the scoop on this?

First of all, journalists all across America would give you the evil eye for putting "Dick Vitale" and "journalist" in the same sentence. :D ;)

Actually, calling him an "expert" is a stretch, I liken Vitale to one of those Hollywood gossip columinsts who just know a lot of people in the industry and may have been in a movie (or coached a team or 2) once. (Think about it, who gives more raw, in-depth basketball analysis during a typical broadcast, Calvin Murphy or Dookie Vitale? 'He's awesome, bay-bee!', 'He's a PTPer!' is not basketball analysis, that's hero worship.)

And I may be generalizing about Chinese journalists (I'm sorry if anyone found that offensive), but I was just repeating what several posters have written on this same BBS about Chinese journalists.

Did yao answer your question this time? Of course u can change your question now to "Maybe Charles Barkely was right after all. Will Yao score 19 points in one of the final 8 games?". Keep trying.

If you don't think it is credible, don't read it. Simple as that. No point in wasting server space with those types of questions.

They lost. Why do the Rockets lose whenever Yao scores over 20 points?

Yes the guards need to get him the ball but not isolate him in the low post. They need to get him the ball where he is in position to finish plays rather than start them which is the thing he's not good at doing right now. High post, low post doesn't matter. The boy can finish plays everywhere. He's a player which is much better in a passing, motion type offense where most baskets are assisted if you know what I meant.
