Why? Many of our own fans felt the same way. While the more intelligent fans understood why Morey couldn't get a star, many of our dumber fans were blaming him for apparently not rocking the boat alone. They forgot it takes 2 to tango.
No kidding. The "Fire Morey!" thread was waaayyyy longer than this and was started years earlier. I am 100% certain that there are still hundreds of Clutchfans reading this right now who absolutely cannot wait until Morey "messes up" some trade (lol!! dream on) so they can bring up the %@#*ing Gay for Battier trade.
I kind of gave the guy a hard time today. He ended up being ok, so I basically told him he'd like Hinkie. He said he's showing promise. I believe if the orginization is patient, Philly will be relevant again. For me, losing Hinkie is going to sting more than the others the orginization has lost this offseason.
Yeah I see no reason to make the Rockets fan base look bad by bombarding some random writer with tweets and emails calling him out for a year old article of which he's already written another article since then stating, more or less, that he was wrong. Moreyball was a gamble and we came out on top. We could easily have been stuck with Gasol and Nene right now instead of Howard and Harden. Lets focus on our team improving and showing the current/future skeptics whats up with our play, not by bringing up year old articles as if they were written yesterday.
This was my take on Morey until he pulled the Harden trade out of his hat. That is when the tide turned. While Lin wasn't all that we hoped (he started the season injured) he showed flashes of brilliance. Asik who on the surface appeared to be an expensive "stiff" never missed a game and performed brilliantly. The Harden and Howard deals have made Morey to appear like a genius. Hopefully, he is. I just hope he can resist too much wheeling and dealing, so the team can establish chemistry and move forward. His tendency to "over tinker" could come back to bite us. Hope not.
I think sportswriters like this should have to write an article apologizing for their wrong assumptions and acknowledge, to the world, that they were wrong and completely biased against the person about which they penned the article. I know it'll never happen, but I would love to see it. Hacks like ramona shelburne, one of the biggest Laker homers and clearly biased against a "declining Dwight Howard who is obviously not Laker material", should have to print retractions and apologize to the player and sports world when they make ludicrous and totally wrong statements in articles meant only to drum up controversy and increase their viewership. I know why they write pieces like these, but it bothers me nonetheless. Its wishful thinking, but I would hope that it'd make writers like this one that penned the anti-Moreyball article think twice before throwing a blatantly biased article or interview up on ESPiN or in their local paper and making a complete ass of themselves.
Cuban and Gilbert are Morey's best friend. They're the ones who blocked a trade that would have brought Pau here along with Nene at a later date. That was our front office strategy at the time. What a difference two years makes, now we're the youngest team in the league and we have two superstars. Thanks Cuban and Dan Gilbert. Sincerely, Rockets fan.
Pft, please. It was an opinion piece. A lot of people thought that Morey was striking out even Rockets fans. Look for the fire Morey threads on here. It's not that big of a deal. It worked out for us so we're all happy but people were going crazy right during the entire process up until this point. If Harden didn't fall into our lap and subsequently Dwight didn't sign, what would we all be saying. Just leave year old articles in the past or read what he wrote about Hinkie this summer and see the difference. As for Shelbourne and all the other ESPN people and or homer writers... should all of them forgo their angles and just go with our general consensus? How is she going to make a living in LA by agreeing with us and not writing for her base? Get real, guys. Be happy it worked out for us but don't get all cocky and think we knew what was right all along. It has been a journey and lets see where it goes.
There was quite a number of us who said that the best way to rebuild was not through tanking, but rather by striving to succeed, and thus increasing the value of assets, while still maintaining flexibility under the salary cap. We entered the season without Yao Ming for the first time in 2011/12, marking the "end" of the Yao Ming era. Morey's first job was to get his hands on a new star to build around - and he did that in the very next off-season. Then just 1 year later he gets a second star. Seems those of us who thought he was doing the right thing were right, and have every reason to sit back and lol at the writer of that article. Even the Sixers know it...
