Well I'm not going to bring up each little thing that has happened but I will say the trend of Christians being able to practice their religion in public places is being far more sanctioned and other religions are being given the green light that Christianity use to have. If you want examples I can link you to one of archived videos of a service at my church from a few months ago.

It would take 20-25 minutes of your time.

This is simply not true. This is a made up problem that exists entirely in your head.

you mean the trend of christians bullying people into believing their fantasy and trying to enforce social policy and law based on said fairy tale is being sanctioned.

As it should be. Rightfully and Righteously so.

    Separation of church and state.

Its ironic how a lot of texas evangelical conservatives love to love the constitution yet somehow they only cherry pick which ones they like to adhere to. I guess i shouldnt be surprised considering that's what religious people do.

Sorry you feel that way, and I respect your decision even though I disagree with it. Hopefully one day you'll have a change of heart. Either way good luck on your journey, and I wish you nothing but the best.

You do realize the the modern day bible is the cobbled-together, Roman aristocrat-produced book drawn from numerous ancient texts that has gone through translation after translation over thousands of years, right? Even if it were an accurate historical account at some point, why would you think it's completely trustworthy now?

you're absolutely right that there are translation mistakes that have happened over the yrs. That's why it's important to be taught the word from someone who knows Hebrew and Aramaic.

That said, "why would you think it's completely trustworthy now"? Because I trust God and his word. You obviously don't and guess what......that's ok!!! When you and I pass away, one of us is going to be wrong, and I'm standing strong in my faith and have no doubt that I will never be separated from him. I hope that before you pass away that you'll be open to listening to what he has say. If not that's ok because he gave both of us free volition to decide on our own. I can't make you believe any more than you can make me not believe.

Just as I've stated all along, even if you don't believe, I wish you and any other nonbelievers nothing but the best on your journey here on earth.

The thing is... one of us doesn't have to be wrong. You both can be right.

You are right that the Bible is a collection of books, but "cobbled-together Roman aristocrat-produced book?" Where is your source for that description? The textual issues are relatively minor; the consistency of translations over centuries is actually amazing. It is really the paraphrases of the Bible in the modern era that have "gone off the reservation." The Old Testament is written in Hebrew and the New Testament is written in Greek. Hebrew is perfect for conveying symbols, types, and shadows. Greek is more precise and analytical.

I think the poster might be referring to the council of Nicea that decided which books were going to be the official Bible.

This is another misconception of the "non-believers". We don't accept your claims to be true because the evidence provided is not sufficient. It is not a belief statement. It's like saying "not believing" in fairies is a belief.

Just like any position you take on a particular subject, logic and reason demands that a claim or position is falsifiable. Meaning, if a particular evidence is presented which refutes the claim and can be verified by anybody, that position will change. For example, as an atheist, if god orchestrated a situation where everybody had the same exact dream about the evidence for god, i will become a believer. For a god who wants everybody to believe in him, that would be a simple task for him. That is just one example.

Now ask yourself the same question about your belief. Most believers will not be able to answer this because they are so convinced that this is true. This is the definition of being closed minded. You wished that people can believe the same thing you do, but based on your statements, there is not one IOTA of you changing your belief system. It is difficult to convince somebody if you yourself is not willing or open to the idea that you might be wrong.
