I'm not too concerned. Anybody know of any disciples of Billy Beane that went on to succeed? Paul DePodesta was the only one that got a major shot, and he failed miserably. Morey likely tells his guys "Hey, I taught you everything you know... but I didn't teach you everything I know." As long as DM is running the show, Houston will be fine.
The problem isn't losing the 3 guys, it's losing them essentially all at once. Training a big percentage of your staff all the same time is a serious challenge. Fortunately Morey has the Sloan Sports Recruiting ... uhhm, Analytics Conference to draw people from.
All I know is the Rockets better TRADE ASIK! Hinkie and Rosas know his worth. That's two teams with cap space that will try to outbid the Rockets for him. Both teams need a center as well.
I am pissed! Freakin' MAVS!!! AHHHH!! I wouldn't care so much if it was the Bucks or something but the freakin' MAVS! Damn you Cuban!!
I think he'll be fine too - but Gers and Arturas have been here pre-Daryl. Hinkie came along with Daryl, but Gersson has been around going back to CD's days. He worked his way up from the bottom. I also think Arturas was our Euro scout before Daryl got here. I think he was a Dean Cooper/CD hire when Coop was Director of Scouting. Couldn't be happier for Gersson - those guys put in work.
One of the reasons why the coaching staff is leaving left and right is because of Maurray. This off season has made a lot of people believers of Maurray. Everybody knows he's here to stay, for a long long time. So if the rest of the staff want a GM position, it has to be from somewhere else. In Morey They hate.
Gianluca Pascucci was the international scout under CD & Morey's first couple of seasons. He left for a job running an Italian team but he rejoined the Rockets last year in a different role.
In baseball, its probably harder to do what he's done... as opposed to getting hot at the right time in the flukey MLB playoffs.
basically morey's already conquered the mountain. now he needs to up the stakes in order to create a new challenge. he put this team together with help. now he'll try adding pieces all by himself, just to troll the league even further. it's like if mj got pippen, rodman, and kerr off the team just to show he can still get a ring even by himself.
I'm pretty sure this is one of the main reasons Morey started the MIT Conference to begin with--to find people to recruit for front-office jobs.
