Of course, I believe Angie has been married and divorced...so I dunno. Our families used to be close, but not anymore. Too bad to because her dad had the best crawfish boils!

I'll have to ask my wife. She may know her maiden name. I'll definitely have her ask her the next time she talks to her. But I am sure that she knows her sisters names so I'll check on that too.

No. I was searching all over the net to find Kilborn's exact quote from Old School where he talks about how "guys don't tell, that's what women do, you're not a woman are you," but I couldn't find it. Anyways, did you hit it???

    Ooooh yeah.

Doesn't he live in like Bellaire or something?

Maybe I'm thinking of another Pirate who lived in Bellaire (and who's number and address wasn't unlisted).

By the way Patterson was penciled in for the 4th spot in the Dbacks rotation before spring training. He has struggled some this spring training though, and I don't know if it is a sure thing. The Dbacks have a lot of options for the 4th and 5th spot between Patterson, Batista and Kim--the latter is trying to move from the bullpen to a starter (what he was in S. Korea) and appears to be on his way to doing this transition effectively. The Dbacks are very high on Patterson though and some inconstency is expected. Patterson also has 2 great power pitchers to get advice and to learn their approach to the game--couldn't be a better situation for him. Sure hope he has a great year--the Dbacks whole rotation (not just RJ and Schilling) is looking to be wicked tough. The bullpen and having enough big bats are my major concerns for them--certainly not their starting pitching, defense, or batting average.

Actually he is still set to be the 4th starter. He was told to get out of ST healthy and he would be there. He struggled early but threw well in his last outing. He should be scheduled to throw tomorrow. He has said that he really likes RJ and Schilling. They have been very helpful in teaching him the ropes.

Well the **** hit the fan yesterday. After telling him that all he had to do was stay healthy and he would be number 4, Brenly did an about face(not the first time, see playoff roster last year). Needless to say going back to AAA was not expected at all. I can't really say anything about what the future holds but it wouldn't surprise me if a trade was in Range, er I mean order. For John's sake hopefully he can get into a more stable situation. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him in Houston, I'm pretty sure they could always use another inexpensive young starter.

I want to play this game too.

I went to school with Selvin Young, Backup Tailback, and Punt Returner for the Longhorns. I was a senior when he was a junior. He scored like three touchdowns on Tulane. As soon as Cedric Benson is out of the way...

Joseph Kahn went to my school, class of 91 or something. He is getting ready to be a movie director. Torque is his first feature film. He's done music videos for crap like U2, DMX, and Moby, and crappier crap for bands like Papa Roach and Britney Spears, and Backstreet Boys.

That is too bad for Patterson, I hope some breaks come his way. I thought Brenly totally totally mangled the Erubiel Durazo situation last year too and tried to make Durazo look bad to boot.

Between Brenly's handlining of these situations with his younger players and supposedly Jerry C's political contributions it is harder and harder to support the Dbacks. I have to weigh these with the fact Gonzo, Finley and some other guys appear to be really nice guys and the fact beating Rivera and the evil Yankee's in the 9th 2 years ago was one of my fondest sports memories. Ugh.

Brenly is way too loyal to mediocre veterans.

In fact, if they(Arizona) hadn't dealt for Mr. Mediocre himself, Elmer Dessens, they would still have Durazo, and have equally as good of a pitching staff.

Durazo should have been starting over Mark Grace for a long time, but Brenly couldn't figure it out.

Arizona is by far worse than last year.

First, moving Kim out of the bullpen is a huge mistake. Matt Mantei will not be nearly as effective as BK is in the late innings.

Two, how do they plan on scoring runs. Gonzo and Finley are solid players, Spivey had his breakout year, Matt Williams is decent. But there is no big bopper kind of threat here, and I am extremely skeptical spivey will do quite as good as he did last year. Also, you have the age factor. Gonzo/Finley are 37 each or close to it. They are bound to start having nagging injuries sooner or later. And they dont have Durazo for insurance anymore.

Bottom line: Zona will be good because of RJ/Schilling, but they are appreciably worse than last year, by weakening the bullpen, and degrading an overachieving offense from last year.

DV, I don't know if they are worse than last year.

Defense will be excellent, like last year.

There pitching is a lot better after RJ and CS now, Dessens and Kim have pitched well in the spring and the bullpen is generally better and deeper.

I do agree Mantei is a risk--it will really hurt them if he doesn't come through, we will see.

They will also be missing power, no question, but they won't have a bad offense either--they probably will have around the highest BA in the NL. Counsell, Spivey, Gonzo, Finley, Bautista will make a pretty think hitting middle of the line-up even if light on the long ball.

    Key things for them:

Health--can't afford Gonza, RJ or Schilling to go down. Anyone else they can probably survive for a long stretch w/o too much damage. Even Finley is replacable somewhat, as is Bautista (Q/Delucci OF platoon is OK)--they just can't lose both Finley and Bautista.

Maintei--but all is not lost if this doesn't work. They can move Kim back or trade for a closer.

The youth--can Spivey come close to what he did last year and will 1st base (Overbay especially) and the C spot provide bat support.

IN SUMMARY You still are talking a playoff team barring major injuries. With a few things panning out right (Spivey, Mantei, & Overbay with good seasons), and health, this team is a WS contender again.
