Morey also released Scola, Dragic, Lin, Hayes, Landry, and other serviceable players recently. This does not mean that all of those players are overrated by Clutchfans cheerleaders.

No need to start playing logic games. It's all very simple.

For this team, just having a veteran PG that can play off the ball effectively and knock down 3's as a 4th or 5th option, is an upgrade. No need to pay $8M for that role. Plus, keeping Lin does not improve our chances of winning the championship. He'd likely be on the bench in 4th quarters anyway. If he wants to maintain his current pay level, he'd be much better off as a 1st or 2nd option on a non contending team where he can continue to develop his game. As it stands now, he'll be looking at a major pay cut on his next contract.

Seems to be difficult for everyone to agree on a very simple obvious point like this.

I want the Rockets to win and I think Brooks can help with that. Sweet!

They are not all overrated by CF cheerleaders. But Aaron Brooks is.

Right on. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter what CF cheerleaders think if the player can fill his role for the team. And right now, Aaron's role is 3rd string PG on a vet minimum contract. I'm cool with that.

In fact, he could very well end up in a situation like Aaron Brooks is now, taking the minimum and having to find the right situation to prove himself again. Lin's first full year as a starter was not better than Brooks first year. Or Lowry's, or Dragic's...

Me, too. And I am cool with Casspi and Reggie Williams at minimum contract, also. Just saying that what the market tells us is that all these guys have a relatively small chance of actually making an impact for a team and people who think that AB is more than a cheap wager at this point are being willfully ignorant.

"That's because McFail no let him play the true point guard position"... Everyone knows that...

Exactly! Things can go either way... I know we all as rockets fans want to see Lin succeed but I am also confident in the fact that the rockets can win a championship without him.

I'm really interested to see Reggie in the mix. I think it's important to have a guy who is not a point guard that can come in off the bench in create their own offense. We didn't have that last year. And most teams that make it to the finals, have a guy that can (Manu and Allen for example).

Well no true or at least per defintion.

every team that makes the playoffs are contender, coz they have in theory equally the same chance to win the championship. Any teams who doea not make the playoffs are lottery teams.

So teams making the 8th or 7th playoff spot may only have small chances to "contend" but they are by virtue contender

    FIFY Carl !

    ;)

The market argument is an interesting one, as the new CBA has changed it significantly. If that is your baseline for value than that is what you think.

It will be interesting to see what that market is for your boy Patterson, won't it?

The only thing less settled than the "age old brooks Lowry" debate is drafting Harold Miner vs Robert Horry. As hilarious as it would be walk down DD memory lane on that one its simply a waste of time, not unlike when Aaron Brooks tries to run the offense, engages max penetration mode, then realizes he's 5-9 and runs back out

Such hostility - just enjoy the ride Sam - Brooks will probably sit all year as insurance - and Morey thought enough of him to bring him back 3 times now - which is good enough for me.

Heck if he brings Lowry back at some point that is fine too, whatever helps the team....who cares who was right or wrong?

    Waste of time.

I sense a lot of hatred on a personal level here.

What in the last three years could possibly give you the impression that Brooks is still a useful player?

Uhh the fact that he showed glimpses of it in the playoffs? You have to evaluate his performance in terms of the context; the lockout,kings/suns teams with piss poor management and in free fall

Am I saying he will be useful? No.
But I'm not eliminating the possibility, and at the gamble of the vet minimum it is absolutely ridiculous that some people are out of blind hatred.
