DD you are still high. Brooks as a insurance policy at minimum salary is fine, but capable starter? Come on, he's at best a 3rd string PG now after he lost the speed he used to have.
I don't know about capable starter, but having a healthy(?) body around for vet min who can shoot is always useful in the long haul.
I don't mind Brooks because he can knock down open threes, but the dude is seriously one of the most overrated guys on this board. Counting primes as Rockets starters: Lowry > Dragic > Lin > Beverley > Brooks > Alston Stop this madness
Obviously Morey doesn't see much in Aaron Brooks. Why? Because he only signed him for 1 year, minimum wage. Neither Morey nor any of the execs of all 30 teams in the NBA offered him significantly more money either to outbid another team or to get him to accept a longer contract. The NBA market is not a perfect judge of talent, but a guy's contract signed as a unrestricted FA does tell you something about what teams (most of who tend to do their homework) generally think of him.
I take that back, a bit too harsh but really dude? Fisher's GF (assuming he had one) probably left him to be a gummah for AB, that is a pretty dumb ranking.
I agree with him. I must be a r****d too. That season we basically did our best to maximize Brooks' trade value, even then his PER was not fantastic. Add on top of that the defensive metrics which PER doesn't account for, and Brooks was probably closer to Rafer than Beverly. And if you ever met Brooks in person you know he's 5'11 in shoes, smaller than any other PG in that list.
What is dumb about it? Lin and Beverley are close, but Lin substantially improved throughout the year and was pretty good for most of the year (despite the perception he has on this board). Brooks? He was stellar in the playoffs in 09 (where the corpse of Derek Fisher guarded him, and he was largely unscouted). He put up nearly 20 PPG as a high usage, low efficiency chucker on a team with no other offensive weapons sans Luis Scola and Kevin Martin for 20 games. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, but he's overrated on this board.
Another great signing for the Roxs. Going to be a lot of competition for the bench especially this year.
After what Brooks did for us in the playoffs against Portland, it is blasphemous to have Rafer or Lin in front of him. Absurd...
I dont get what the big deal is, brooks is a good PG. we didn't play him as much as we probably should have last season.
Golly! I must be confused. I've been thinking that Morey signed an excellent 3rd string point guard at a very cheap contract. One who contributes during the playoffs, if needed. See games 4 and 5, wins for the Rockets, when Brooks come in and contributed at a time when he was needed, something rather nice to have from a third string point guard. Anyone else confused?
Seriously. Ever since the injury, Brooks has not been the same player he once was. But to say in his prime Brooks is even less than pbev is totally r****ded. Bunch of unappreciative fans. Typical what have you done for me lately syndrome.
