Don't think AB gets to retain his (Early) Bird right. Garcia had his team option declined so he never went through the waiver process (where teams have 2 days to claim him). AB's contract did not have a team option but rather a non-guaranteed year 2. So he had to go through waiver when HOU releases him.

Going through waiver resets the clock on the Bird rights.

Now I know you're trolling. Take a look at their stats last season:

    http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3192/aaron-brooks
    Brooks

    Goudelock

Yeah, that's what I got from your posts, but how did he give up $2.4 million to ride the pine when he was already riding the pine? He got paid for his production last season based on his stats during his 46 games played and the team option which could be used in a trade. The Rockets obviously paid extra to get the team option (which although turned out to be worthless, is a Morey move that cost the Rockets pennies).

Wow, a guy with a nice Rox past and a cloudy NBA future signs on and Voila! instant Dwight-esque response.

To the point (ouch), I am curious about the signing and wondering what the ramifications might be? IMHO Lin is the only starter-worthy 1 on today's roster. Closer-by-committee just doesn't work and neither does Point-by-committee.

Is there another shoe to drop? If so, where/who/what/when?

Finally - - just if, if I say, this portends something with Bucks/Ilyasova/Blazers/LMA then what becomes of Jennings? Does he get a ThankYouVeryMuch SnT to Knicks with Bird Rights?

It's because too many posters have this incredible fascination and fantasy about Brooks from bygone days. He was a first round draft pick of this team. From the moment he laced them up he was better than Rafer or anybody else we had at PG at that time. He finally got the job after we traded Rafer. We won that colossal game against the Lakers in the playoffs and he ran circles around Fisher and had Shaq swatting at him like a lumbering giant trying to kill a fly.

People can't get over the fact that that was it. Kinda like a dud 4th of July roman candle. Boom..it lets off one big star shower and then the rest of the showers fizzle out b4 they get airborne. People don't understand what can happen to players. They don't understand downside. Every player has weaknesses. His weaknesses get exposed in the NBA. He can either work on them or just ignore them. This is what happened to Brooks. He ignored his weaknesses and tried to improve more on his strengths. Fizzle. Now he's a bit player at best.

It's probably an if/and/or thing, if he has to package a pg he has brooks for the rest of the year, if he doesn't he probably lets him go. Will Brooks be here long term? well min contracts generally aren't except in rare cases like Cisco.

Actually it makes you both. If you think Lin has even a modicum of potential you're a LOF and will be blasted. If you Don't believe Lin is the second coming of Jesus playing PG you're a LOH and subject to eternity in hell.

Curse you for having a moderate and reasonable opinion.

Only comment I have on this is I saw Brooks play the best defense of his life in the playoff series. That's all it is. A comment.

I know there's a decent chance what you're arguing is true, but let's not bring up a league where D-Mo averaged 24/11/3 on 51.4% shooting. I don't care if he won MVP.

He was disruptive. Playing off the ball, etc. I remember the series well. I acknowledge that fact. I do believe he has the potential to do that. But he hasn't. Showed it for a few games but that was it.

Could be a Lin trade or could be a Bev trade. Aside from reliving the past, I like the signing because he's a good sniper, something that's more important than ever with Howard, and something that Lin isn't particularly good at. He might not play, but Canaan will probably play for the Vipers all season, so he can at least be the 3rd PG.
