We have one guy older than 27, and he will almost certainly be part of the rotation. If we added one more, that's a far cry from clogging up the roster. And at least a veteran has proven he's actually an NBA player, unlike a lot of the kids clogging up our roster.
He's a shooter and teams always want shooters. The Mavs or the Bucks will snatch him up before he enters free agency.
There is basically zero chance that Miller gets claimed. No one is going to give a multi-year contract to an injury prone 33-year-old who will be even older when their rebuilding team is in contention. If a team has cap room at this point, it means they A) aren't a contender and B) value it highly, which means a multi-year deal to Mike Miller isn't happening. Especially since Miller has already said he doesn't want to go there (asking to play for a contender). The waiver process here is just a formality, same as it was for Artest. That said, I think he'll end up in Memphis or Oklahoma City. Memphis because he played there before and still has a home there, his family reportedly loved it, and they need a shooter. OKC because they're desperate for wing help after losing Martin and can offer more guaranteed playing time than we can. We'll have a shot, but it seems those two franchises have more "ins" with Miller and his family. Outside chance for us is if Parsons (UF connection) or Dwight has a closer relationship with Mike than most realize.
mike miller lol, there was a video clip on inside the nba with him shooting a 3 then looked like he pulled something. they said something like "if you cant even shoot a 3 w/o getting injured its time to retire"
It's not completely out of the question. He only has 1 more year left on his contract after this one and his $6M/year contract doesn't force teams bidding on him to offer that much, it just means they need that much cap space to bid. He could easily be picked for ~$3M by a team like the mavs that isn't ready to rebuild.
I understand that. But even at $3 million or so, I find it incredibly unlikely that any team would mortgage part of their 2014 cap room (summer of LeBron, Carmelo, possible Aldridge/Love trades, etc.) on a player that averaged 15 minutes/game and will be 34 years old. Too much risk for the reward of an aging, marginal role player that doesn't even want to be with your team.

As a Heat fan, I can tell you that Miller is certainly not done and would be a GREAT fit on this Rockets team. I, for one, would love to see him end up with Houston. Guy is a true professional who hustles his ass off, obviously a great shooter, above average rebounder, and underrated defender (people assume he's bad bc he's a white 3pt specialist). People really think Covington or BJ Young would be more productive for a win-now team? LOL @ you message board GM's and your love of the unknown and 'ZOMFG POTENTIAL!'.
How is it we are so deep at the wing? We have Lin, Harden, and Parson, and to back them up we have Bev and Garcia and ???. Am I missing something here? If he was healthy, he's better than any reserve we have at the 2 or 3 right now.
The biggest factor is that besides Garcia, the starters here (Harden/Parsons) are both extremely entrenched at 35+ minutes per night. In Memphis, everyone at the wing spots is mediocre, in addition to the lack of shooting. In OKC, there's Durant and not much else. Sefalosha is mediocre. There's a limit to upward mobility in Houston, minutes-wise that isn't necessarily there in OKC/Memphis. Now, should Mike Miller at 33 be looking at it that way? Probably not, but many in his situation before haven't had proper perspective, so I'm keeping my expectations reasonable.
