Also, everything in the movie is focused on the CGI / special effects of things, so they don't exactly need to bring in Oscar nominated people to push the story forward.

Idris Elba seemed to be a good get though. All you need is the one star.

Amazing that Pacific Rim finished THIRD this week at the box office behind Despicable Me 2 and Grown Ups 2!?!? Grown Ups 2? Really?

I blame Michael bay for the disastrous Transformers Trilogy he dumped onto the mainstream audiences a few years ago. People still haven't recovered from that tragic event yet. *** you Michael bay and *** Adam Sandler, I'd rather go watch Carlos Mencia do stand up then to sit through a sh!tty Adam Sandler movie.

After a few days, i think my rating goes down to a 6.5/10. It was so lifeless and boring. The action did nothing for me either. Very disappoint Guillermo.

Just got out of IMAX showing. Purdy good. Much better than Man of Steel, not as good as Into Darkness or IM3.

    6.5/10

Slow down, let's not things we might later regret.

It really did have a lot going against it. No recognizable stars, a director mainstream audiences might not know, a brand that had to be created from the ground up.

Hopefully it has some staying power and benefits from good word of mouth. But sadly his vision may be one and done....while we get another Bay Transformers and ID42.

This is what you should set your expectations at when you see Summer movies like Pacific Rim:

Or you'll come out disappointed like this. You can't pick this stuff apart:

I think it will have legs due to good word of mouth. I haven't met anyone who's seen it and didn't love it.

It's a 30-minute longer movie and I think that may hurt it's box office receipts; there just weren't as many showings. Plus the over-saturation of 3D may have hurt it.

For those complaining about the characterization and acting, I personally think it’s all intentionally done. I think Del Toro was really going for an almost cartoonish type of characters and story that’s my opinion at least. .

Still can't get over Grown Ups 2 pulling in more bank than this. I'm hoping Pacific Rim has a some strong staying power, it might since there aren't very many "huge" summer releases, this next weekend is a hodgepodge of releases until next weekends release of The Wolverine.

Star Trek was a big letdown for me, life long Trek fan. Wasn't impressed with the story they put out there and the "clever" reversals struck me as lazy.

Superman was ok, I enjoyed it but it didn't blow me away.

I agree 99% (not a huge Trek fan). Both were fun and enjoyable. I liked ST2 but it felt like a TV episode rather than an action movie. And Superman's character development suffered from editing. But I liked Pacific Rim much, much more.

I really liked Star Trek 2 and Steelman... so does this mean Pacific Rim will blow me to pieces?

My God, could this movie have been more cliched? And don't get me started on the horrible dialogue/acting.

The action was great, though. I just wish there was more from the other Jaegers.

No. It's a different type of movie all together. It doesn't even try to be realistic. Think fast and the furious. My 4 year old loved it more than st2 and superman because it has a cartoon storyline

I agree, it's made that way intentionally, think that's why some people are bothered by the acting and dialogue.
