You are preaching to the choir my friend. If Surface RT could run chemdraw my Samsung Series 7 slate would be on eBay so fast your head would spin...
Yeah, waiting 90 days for the Surface Pro is rough... but it was the right thing to do for Microsoft, so they didn't completely shut their hardware partners out at launch.
Surface Pro is coming February 9th. http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsof...ace-windows-8-pro-availability-confirmed.aspx
Got some of the RTs in today at my office. I haven't played with it but the design is super slick and the keyboard is freaking thin. I'm going to get a Pro to play with soon unless something falls through. I'll keep ya'll posted.
A co-worker of mine purchased the Type cover, and my goodness that thing is nice. I found it much easier to type on than the Touch cover, so I'll likely be shelling out the money to get me one.
Still too much for me since it doesn't run Project, Visio or Access, but might make sense for some others who just use Excel, Word, PPT etc.
I seemed to pick up a reputation for being an Apple guy (for good reason), but don't sleep on the Surface. It's a good product, especially when paired with the type cover on the Surface Pro. No, it's not going to go with you everywhere, but I certainly hope your iPad isn't either. No, it's not going to last you all day; it has a very short battery life. But when you have a specific goal to accomplish and want a PC notebook with touch controls, it's fantastic. It's a flexible machine and a darn good piece of hardware. Me? My iPhone and MacBook Pro replaced everything I used to do on my iPad (I used to be a desktop guy), so I don't even have an iPad anymore. I have no desire to get a Surface, but, seeing as everything I want/need to do is in Mac OS X anyway, it's a non-issue.
