Harden is the only guy on the team who can create a high % shot out of an iso, that the defense won't be able to cheat at all will mean it's no longer 1 v 2 either, add that a Harden/Dwight high pnr play will probably be as high a percentage as a lebron drive and it should be obvious.

i know i'm in the minority here but what about we just move the ball around and whoever is in the best position to score at the right time gets the last shot? Harden is a great player but for our offense to become so stagnant and just watch him throw up a three point contested prayer or drive in and turnover the ball is frustrating to watch. it seems the last minute hero ball worked 10 percent of the time... that goes for lin too!

The ball was too sticky last year but now that harden has less presser to be "the man" now that howard is here i feel the ball should and will be more free flowing. Just because harden is our best scorer doesn't mean in any situation its best he has the ball. what we should be doing is reading mismatches and also feeding the hot hand.

Our roster looks great on paper but we have a long way to go! the team should build their chemistry as they are and figure out each others strengths and weaknesses and where they like the ball, things like that.

Best shot takes it, but this thread is about who should have the ball to initiate the offense/who should create something. Should Howard get the ball in the post and see if the defense collapses, or should Harden try to create something off the pick and roll. I would much rather have Howard and his chances of getting fouled over Harden trying to draw a foul when the refs swallow their whistles in the final seconds of the game.

The answer is Harden. I don't mind Parsons taking the last shot though. He's had some clutch shots.

So you don't really know anything for a fact, but since it's Jeremy Lin we're talking about, it's ok to assume that he did a bunch of terrible stuff, like turning the ball over everytime the game's on the line... right?

If we're talking about possessions that require some milking the clock, then Harden no doubt.

If we're talking about a regular possession, i.e. down by 1 with 30 seconds to go, then I'd say run the regular offense. In which case it should be run based on how the defense is set up.

    1) Which team are they playing?
    2) Who is the coach for that team?
    3) Who is on the floor for that team right now?
    4) How has the opposing team been playing defense during the game? Zone? Man? (Also: How has each player been defended during the game?)
    5) Is this in regular minutes or overtime?
    6) How many minutes has each player played?
    7) How has each player performed during the game thus far?
    8) Have the refs been calling or not calling fouls? What about for particular players?
    9) What is the actual score?
    10) Exactly how much time is left on the clock?
    11) Who is available to play?
    12) How many time outs does each team have available?
    13) How many fouls does each team have available?

It took me 3 minutes to come up with this list of questions, all of which are extremely relevant, to the question of, "Who should have the ball in the final possession of the game?"

There is such a thing as missing the trees for the forest. If you are asking a question about a single possession, there are too many variables in play to provide a meaningful generalized answer.

These possessions are often scripted plays where the open man takes the shot - it's not like you are just going to give the ball to one player with 23 seconds on the clock and watch him do whatever he can to make a bucket by himself. If Lin has the ball and passes to Howard, does that mean that Lin had the ball for the final possession, or Howard had the ball? If they run a PNR, and Lin ends up being open, who gets credit for that? If Harden brings it up to the key and gets doubled and then passes it to Parsons for an open corner 3, does that mean that Harden had the final possession or Parsons did?

There's no right answer to this question because it's way too vague.

If I'm understanding your post correctly your essentially saying who should get the ball and make the decision during the last 24 seconds, not necessarily who should take the last shot.

If that is correct then I think Harden is the 1st option and Jeremy is 2nd option.

Harden would have the option to drive to the basket for a layup, foul or pass off to D12 or he could take the jumper or pass off to Lin or CP25. Harden is an outstanding facilitater as well as scoring so he is the perfect choice.

    Lin.
Harden will just pound the ball out like the selfish player he is and try to draw a foul. Harden is only good because he tries to draw fouls. But McHale doesn't seem to get that and ISO Harden every critical possession.
Lin has the best stats in the last 5 minutes of the game, in fact he's up there with Lebron James. We get to have Lebron James for the last 5 minutes!!!

    Harden. No Brainer.

    - He can hit the 3 point shot.

    - Can drive into the lane and create his own shot.

    - Hit Freethrows.

    - And Facilitate off the dribble.

Last but not least he is not afraid to fail by missing that shot and that is what is required to have the "ball" in your hands successfully.

    This cannot be debated.
