Why doesn't the Nets get the hate they deserve? They are essentially buying their way to a ring

I guess that's a part of it but the owner is also a well documented crook. This isn't Cuban or Paul Allen, who were smart, ran legitimate businesses at the right time and got very lucky. Or some guy who inherited billions. Bribes, shady political favors. That's Prokhorov's modus operandi, and it's only natural for people to be suspicious.

Nothing wrong with the owners raising those questions. But I'd be stunned if it leads anywhere.

 

Blatche also signed a really cheap deal, he could get way more.

They're just mad Prokhorov, however you spell his name, is making them look like a bunch of cheapskates.

 

Believe it or not, the nets have a higher chance of making it to the ecf than the rockets do of making it to the wcf. If wade gets injured again, they could make it to the finals.

It would be nice to have him as the rockets owner and morey as the gm.

 

For the record: I'm very suspicious and think shenanigans are probably involved.

I don't blame other teams for raising questions but nothing will be found. Wild geese are wild geese.

 

I actually wish there were a few more billionaire owners (shady or not, irrevelant) that didn't give a **** about their bottom line and just spent to win or de-throne Miami. Makes the NBA a lot more interesting.

Still remember the Bonzi signings, and the "shoe contract" that any new signing joined Rox during the Yao days.

But at 32.. forfeiting a 10m contract for a 3m contract? Side deals or not, its actually quite common to give "championship discount".

Nash signed a 3 year 27m contract instead of 3 year 36m contract by Raptors.
Allen signed a 2 year 6m instead of 2 year 12m by Celts.

 

What if the Nets owner is paying Stern and Silver to look the other way?

You know what they say about assumption right? I think it is all coincidence. Ok, the owner and the player are Russian. Big *****in deal. Kirilenko has already had a long career. Maybe he is tired of having all that money to spend while playing for losers with no hope of EVER winning a championship. It is not so unreasonable to assume that he has grown tired of playing hard season after season with never a hope of achieving the ultimate glory the NBA has to offer, a championship ring.

I would bet 99% of all players with a chance to get away from a floundering franchise like Minnesota and move on to one with legitimate title aspirations this coming season would do the same as Kirilenko just did, leave millions on the table and go to the team that has at least a chance to win it all.

Dwight Howard just left $30 million on the table to go to an obviously better situation for a chance to win championships. If Kirilenko had signed a deal as long as Dwight's, he would be walking away from $28 million. So he signed for $3.1 million this season. If it works out and he plays well, the Nets can give him whatever amount they want next offseason since they don't care about paying the luxury tax or repeater tax penalties.

These knee-jerk reactions from teams demanding an investigation reek of jealousy, jealousy caused by other teams that could not pull off such a move and get a valuable bench player to sign for so little.

Collusion will be next to impossible to prove. Get over it. And to all those teams that are complaining, go find some players you can afford to sign and settle it on the court next season. Isn't it supposed to be innocent until proven guilty in this country???

Because other teams can do it, its just they choose not to. Prokhorov is simply putting his money where his mouth is.

 

I don't think prokhorov would pay him anything extra now, but i expect there to be some money changing hands in the future beyond the auspices of the nba. The question really isn't about proving it at this point, it's more a case of whether the nba is really willing to push this issue, ultimately the discretion rests in their lap.

 

Completely agree on a future transfer of funds. If this is true, how does the NBA "push this issue" when they have absolutely no leg to stand on?

 

You act like the nba needs to prove something like it's a court of law, they can remove the franchise from prokhorov and there isn't jack **** he can do such is the immunities granted to the professional leagues by congress. They just need to suspect it's most likely true and they can act within their own discretion.
