I have never understood why ming is getting such rave reviews. I suppose that many Asian fans are boosting him up unfairly. I'm Asian but I think he's sooo overated and has always been despite all this ridiculous hoopla. If you look closely at the stats Yao has not had many really dominant games. He usually has 3 mediocre games before he gets 1 decent scoring game.

    His weaknesses:

    1. Lack of strength and power and agressiveness. No need to doubt this. Also power and strength are hard to add to his body type w/o sacrificing speed. This will not improve much.

    2. He is not coordinated: he reminds me of Sean bradley. His lateral movement is terrible. He can't jump (he doesn't even go for the jump balls). He is also not quick. He's as clumsy as Bradley.
    This cannot be improved much.

    3. His rebounding is terrible for somebody of his height. C'mon he's 7'5" and he still can't average 10 rebounds. This is pathetic. It's b/c he can't move laterally. Cato is far better rebounder. Francis is better for his size. Yao reminds me of a tree.

    4. He has not athleticism. Have you every seen him finish an ally oop? Never b/c he can't time his jump properly. In fact he can't jump more than 6 " off the ground.

    His strengths:

    1. Great knowledge of the game: This will help him stay in the game.

    2. Patience and temperment: This is better suited to another profession, not professional sports. Nice guys finish last! He is way too soft. You can't change your personality.

    3. Nice touch and passing skills: He may be better in a different type of offense where he has more oppty to shoot from the outside.

    His future:

    1. A 15 point 8-9 rebound career at best. I guarantee it. IN FACT I'm willing to bet $$$ on it.

    What the rockets should do:

    1. Trade him while his value is high.
    2. Keep him and get another coach that can make him into a primarily perimeter player.

All you fans make projections about how great he will be. But if you watch his weaknesses (which cannot be rectified) he has serious limitations to his game that cannot be overcome. Not all players improve after their rookie season. Yao will be one of them.

Considering he's already a 14-8 player right now, I'm in on the bet.

Play a 7'6" 300 lb guy on the perimeter? You need to stop talking right now.

That's all he's left to resort. He can't consistently produce in the post so you may as well send him to the perimeter. His sweet stroke would be better suited to a mid range game. Look at Nowitzki!

You so called fans have been drunk on Yao hype. Look at the stats, watch the damn games!

I say watch Yao carefully. You can see that there are physical limitations that prevent progress in key areas. It's like having a marathon runner having arthritis.

Coordination: this is innate, you can't improve this.
Lateral movement: he has good foot work but he's slow. You can't increase or improve this.
athleticism: you either have it or you don't
agressiveness: you can't make a nice person into an arrogant b*stard. YM is a nice guy who's never going to be "bad" enough to take on the Shaq's of the world

there are things you can improve: shooting, mental game but you cannot improve. dirk had the basic skills (coordination, lateral movement) required of basketball player

Why does every Yao basher declare himself an Asian before dishing it out?

I say I'm Asian b/c everybody thinks that Yao supporters are Asian. I'm Asian but I think Yao sucks the big one and am willing to say it b/c the facts are there. LOOK AT THE GAMES , SEE THE STATS , WATCH YAO MING LOSE THE JUMP TIP - it's pathetic to see how this guy gets so much hoopla for nothing. It's blatant reverse-racism in the NBA. The non-black guy is getting all the hoopla. If Yao were black he wouldn't be nearly as popular.

ok, now you're getting really stupid. ok, i'm asian, and i'm not the only one who will criticize yao when he has a bad game but to say his career is over before his rookie season ends is stupid.

and that reverse racism bs you stated is the dumbest and very typical assumption of the fake a$$ian that i just talked about. people think he's getting a lot of hype. but nobody called yao, a superstar when he was drafted. even today, there are still frequent doubters waiting for a bad game from him to claim he's all hype. yet, when amare stoudemire has a bad game, nobody talks about it at all. it's not debated as if its the end of his career. but when he has a good game, they show all his highlights, hide all his flaws. if yao is all hype, how come every pre-draft prediction called him a bust waiting to a happen? would that have happened to a black or white player? NO. bostjan nachbar was predicted to be more of an impact player than yao in his rookie year and that yao would be a project? how is that hype? if there was a comparable player from nigeria for instance, the player would have been hyped and nobody would call him a bust waiting to happen or compare him to shawn bradley and nobody would doubt his mental toughness. But because yao is asian, everybody automatically thinks he lacks mental toughness.

 o and about that crap about how yao hasn't completed any alley oops, i remember him doing at least three including one where he palmed the ball one handed and threw it down a la amare style and it never showed on sportscenter.

all this ming dynasty crap is just people playing with his name and the nba trying to make money off asians.

I've setup a new site at houstonrockets.com. I'm making bets on the rox:

    1. Yao will be traded before the start of next season.
    2. YM will never score more than 15 points over a season
    3. YM will contract SARS by next year.
    4. Moochie will grow to YM's height by next year with help of Chinese ginseng.

    Hey smart Asian,

Are you going to tell me that YM is:

    1. A good rebounder for his size?
    2. Is athletic relative to a typical NBA player? He can't jump 6" off the ground.
    3. Has good lateral movement? He's a tree.

(I do admit he can shoot from a standing position. Put him out where he can just set picks and wait for the ball)

Wake up and smell the coffee. He has SERIOUS LIMITATIONS that cannot be cured by waiting till next season or whenever it is these fans want to wait until

btw, You're also probably an Asian who can't speak the damn languages nor has any first-hand knowledge of the culture. So I'm curious as who the fake Asian is. It is sad. DIU LAY!

What are these stats you are talking about. Yao is like top 5 in just about every offensive catagory among rookies. Yao is arguably already the 2nd best center in the league. No he is no match for shaq. Shaq is a 10 year vet Yao has barely gotten his feet wet. Yao is playing terrible right now add to that that hes playing against shaq and the spurs he is going to look terrible like he has been. Its okay though hes given this team many quality games and im sure he will have more to come this season. Enjoy Yao grow hes not going to reach his maxim potential within one year. Ignore the last two games or so and just watch those and tell us again yao ming is overrated.
