Problem is, if they don't get rid of Nash's deal in that trade, they're looking at a crazy luxury tax bill. They're already a bit into luxury tax, but taking on Lin's contract (or even most of it while returning few assets to us), w/ Metta's amnesty, practically doubles the bill.

They are at around $74.5M right now, if they amnesty Metta, but if they take in Lin for free or Goudelock (expiring) or whatever (I REALLY don't want Steve Blake), they'd be adding another $8.3M to their bill, PLUS an ADDITIONAL luxury tax of over $13M to take on Lin's contract. So that's almost $21M for Lin, just to have insurance on Nash and to also nearly double their salary cap commitments for 2014?

As is, do Lakers even WANT to boost their team? I'd rather tank for Wiggins at this point.

I'd say this gors to relevance. Dwight is; Kaman is not. Kobe is never passing the torch to Kaman, so it matters on a completely different, and lower, plane.

OK, thanks. (BTW - - I would guess that LAL would want to ship Meeks but would want-want-want the TE.)

Odd how the new CBA was bent to benefit GSW by their management team, kudos to them, while DM the GM cannot squeeze the same value out while having had his team's business in much better order.

Obviously, the Lakers wants to do it since they would lose Howard for nothing.

The Rockets might want to do it, because Howard will be happy with the 5th year $30mil, and the Rockets will get to keep him for 5 years, instead of 3 + player's option.

Can't 'appease' the gent as the new CBA prohibits an SnT from being better than what the offering team can offer regardless.
