Keep Asik. He'll extend Dwight's playing career by not requiring so many minutes. Plus we have 48 minutes of true paint protection. I know keeping him is a luxury but I think we need to keep that luxury until we see how this team plays out through the beginning of the season. We can make any necessary adjustments later.
Them and Minny, maybe even Atlanta, all those teams seem to be trying to make the playoffs this year from their roster moves, it seems mostly an owner thing going on. I doubt any of those gms really want to pump out an 8th seed going into a super draft but that's what they're doing. It wouldn't even surprise me if both teams were willing to go all the way to the deadline next year, or even let them go in free agency.
they do not have picks and the only expiring is bogut...and thats a crap ton of money...and they have traded nearly every available pick they have already.
Just a crazy thought: Could Morey already be thinking ahead to LeBron?? I know it sounds pretty ridiculous, and would require a SnT and I believe also LeBron taking a small paycut on top of that, but could it happen? Should Dwight and Harden both prove themselves top 5 players this upcoming season, will there be a better landing spot for him in basketball terms? We already know he's friends with Harden and he's considering leaving Miami after this contract. Supposing he wants to tie or surpass Jordan in ring count, Houston might actually be the best place to go. And Morey could also be thinking that even if we strike out on a SnT for LeBron, there's still Bosh, Melo, Dirk, etc etc... plenty of fallback options that might put us over the top.
Here's an idea. Let me know what you think. If more needs to be added or subtracted or whatever. HOUSTON IN: Aaron Afflalo, Glen Davis HOUSTON OUT: Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Both 2014 2nd Rounders (One from NY) ORLANDO IN: Greg Monroe ORLANDO OUT: Aaron Afflalo, Glen Davis, 2014 1st Rounder DETROIT IN: Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, ORL 2014 1st Rounder, Both 2014 2nd Rounders from HOU DETROIT OUT: Greg Monroe Why Detroit does it: After picking up Josh Smith long term, and with Drummond looking like their guy. Greg Monroe is an extremely valuable surplus requirement on this team. They need a PG that can score and be a bit more ball dominant (Lin) since Smoove and Drummond need more of their offense created for them. They are also still a little away from a contender, which is why they want the draft picks to continue building. Asik can be traded for further assets or put into the rotation. Right now they are building a team similar to Memphis, but they just need a couple years to develop and build that before they can really take off, I think. Why Orlando does it: They get a young player and soon-to-be all-star in Greg Monroe to build their team around, and they don't have to give up all that much to get it. Similar to the James Harden trade. Their only reservation would be that 1st rounder, but they'd be happy to get a player near Monroe's level with that pick so I could see them moving for the semi-established potential star similar to Morey with Harden. Why Houston does it: They get a solid perimeter defender (which is a HUGE need) and very good player in Aaron Afflalo. He could be an great 6th man or a starter in a small lineup of some sort. Glen Davis could fill that hole at PF. People love to hate on him it seems, but he did average 15 ppg and 7 rpg which is essentially what we need from the PF spot. He's a hustler and decent offensively with the ability to hit a mid-range jumper, which will help the spacing for Howard down low. He's also got decent size and is a respectable defender. It also frees up a little bit more cap space ($2.5M) for us to try and sign a backup center for Howard.
Rockets really need a stretch 4 to make this work. How about this 3 way trade? NY trades - Tyson Chandler and Tim Hardaway Jr. NY receives - Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin Houston trades - Omer Asik, Greg Smith and Jeremy Lin Houston receives - Kevin Love Minny trades - Kevin Love Minny Receives - Tyson Chandler, Greg Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. NY gets the center and pg they need. Their lineup would be C-Asik PF-Bargs SF-Melo SG-Shump PG-Lin Bench-JR, Pablo, Felton Houston gets our premier stretch 4 and rebounder to pair with D12. Our lineup will be.. C-Dwight PF-Love SF-Parsons SG-Harden PG-Beverley Bench-Montijunas, Garcia...We will be deep. Minny gets a PnR center and young SG to play with Ricky. Their lineup will be.. C-Tyson PF-Derrick Williams/Greg Smith SF-Sved SG-Hardaway JR PG-Rubio Bench will need some work.
Agreed! That said it sounds like people think he's more attainable and is tradable for a better player pg that's fits our system down the road. Also trading Asik for Rondo is not very smart unless an Asik replace comes back in the trade. In regards to future pg's I think Isaiah Canaan is going to be another Chandler Parson success story that helps this year, especially with Dwight Howard.
I missed that signing. However, by moving Al Jefferson to PF (which he really is) and Biyombo to back up both Asik and Jefferson, they have a solid front court rotation. They still have the cap room, and everything else still applies.
I count eight from last season. Hickson played out of position [PF who played at center position for POR]. Howard [LAL] - 35.8 mpg, 17.1 ppg, 12.4 rpg Vucevic [ORL] - 33.2 mpg, 13.1 ppg, 11.9 rpg Horford [ATL] - 37.3 mpg, 17.4 ppg, 10.2 rpg Hickson [POR] - 29.0 mpg, 12.7 ppg, 10.4 rpg Asik [HOU] - 30.1 mpg, 10.1 ppg, 11.7 rpg Noah [CHI] - 36.8 mpg, 11.9 ppg, 11.1 rpg Chandler [NY] - 32.8 mpg, 10.4 ppg, 10.7 rpg Varejao [CLE] - 36.0 mpg, 14.1 ppg, 14.4 rpg

No, he doesn't have to see that. That's just an assumption your making based on your opinions and wishes. Vucevic is a better fit for Orlando atm. He is younger and makes a lot less, while still putting up a double double.
