People have to drive for many reaons, including emergencies, and if that person is smoking mar1juana, it would mess up with that his/her driving ability. When you are high, just as if you are intoxicated, emergencies can come up at any time and you would be force to be in a situation where you're judgement is not at its best and that can lead to accidents. While I have no stats to prove accidents with people who are high versus drunk drivers, I can assure you that people who are strung out on mar1juana can put their lives and others in danger when an unavoidable emergency comes up. By the way, how do you know that the average pot smoker doesn't smoke 5 joints a day. mar1juana is a getway drug just see (http://teengrowth.com/index.cfm?action=info_advice&ID_Advice=949) mar1juana can also cause one to loose concentration. Check out http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/drugfact/marijuanainitiative/Talk_Brochure.pdf http://www.theantidrug.com/drug_info/drugs_marijuana.html and http://teengrowth.com/index.cfm?action=info_article&ID_article=1372
As concervative as they come, I feel pot should be legal. Its almost a combo of cigs. and alchohol, with a different effect. Now let me state this; Out of the many people I know and have met that smoked pot on a regular basis, they we're not worth a ****. This is not to say there aren't any decent regular tokers. ..but they are rare. And when I mean decent, I mean someone who I would want working for me or someone I can rely upon. Personally I don't care. As long as its regulated, there is money to be made off these fools. I won't sit around trying to help one who only wants to wallow in their own pity. Im going to take advantage of them as much as the next guy. Toke up! Im sure the government has its own purpose on why it isn't legal ... whether its a conspiricy to recycle the drug back into the market, make more money off people, or just an excuse to spend more/hide money for the "war on drugs"
Eh? LSD is certainly not chemically addictive. It is also one of, if not the, safest drugs you can possibly tech in terms of lethality. Pharmacotheon by Ott by Jonathon Ott p.139 "I must emphasize that there is no danger of death or injury from overdose of LSD, which must have about the highest therapeutic index of any drug known (the ratio of fatal dose to effective dose is unknown since no human being has ever died from an overdose of LSD, but must be very high, as individuals have mistakenly ingested hundreds of doses at a sitting; this is a way of saying that the drug is not at all toxic)."
I know a lot of people who smoke mar1juana and even they wouldn't smoke 5 joints a day...hell even if they had a big 'smoking party' they wouldn't smoke 5 joints in a day...thats just an incredibly stupid number. If anyone did that they would have a serious problem that goes beyond a mar1juana addiction.
Dont legalize it. Like alot of other people on here, I have seen friends who smoke pot regularly have alot of memory loss. They will sometimes forget something they told me just a few hours ago. This whole discussion is pointless anyway, because it will never be legalized anyway. The public backlash would be crazy....I just dont see pot ever being legal.
Hmm, good point. I really could care less either way, but I really think it's a waste of time and money to prosecute individuals for possession for small amounts. People who do it are not a threat to those whoa re not on it, but at the same time, the law is the law.
You´re right, that is a good point.... But everybody else should keep on drinking; you´ll keep MADD in business.
This thread Died 10 days ago, but DJ wanted a site that had some proof about mar1juana, ones that are scientific, but not the anti-drug propaganda the govt spews out. I found one. Tell me what you think. http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=5515
While I think the pot laws are rivaled only by sodomy laws for the claim to stupidest law currently on the books, it is damn funny to me that you cite NORML as a scientific (read: objective) source. They're the main lobby to legalize mar1juana. I mean, in case you didn't know...
Hmmm. Wow, thanks for the heads up there BJ, NORML is for mar1juana legalization? Say it ain't so... No they aren't a scientific(read: scientific) 'source', but their evidence is from scientific sources, they back their opinions using these scientific sources. Hard to follow? Its funny how you incinuate that using NORML as an arguement for pot legalization is somehow not credible because of their obvious bias...but you don't say a damn thing about the other sources like theantidrug.com, teengrowth, and the white house drug policy are all clearly biased against the use of mar1juana...in fact most, if not all, of the info showing the ills of pot are all by these sources, oh, but those are all legit, uh? Hell, the only source sited on any of those pamplets is the National institute of Drug Abuse...real unbiased there.
I'm gonna share a story with you guys (and gals) so you can see where I am coming from on the legalization of pot. A relative of mine got busted for having a joint in the late 60's. He was put on probation for 5 years. A year and a half after that bust, a female friend asked him to drive her to an ALANON meeting. They got pulled over for speeding and she had a joint in her purse. This, the court said, violated HIS probabtion and he went to state prison for over a year. When he got out a friend got him a job working at a comic book store. The police thought that the owner was selling mar1juana and raided the place. My relative was sitting on the floor sorting comic books in a box with his back facing the door when the cops came in. He was shot in the back and killed. He was not armed. If mar1juana were legal he would be alive today. Plain and simple.
Sorry for bumping this, I just noticed this thread. Saying that mar1juana is a gateway to harder drugs is like saying that aspirin or caffeine are also gateway drugs. Just because one activity precedes the other, does not mean it causes it. CORRELATION DOES NOT IMPLY CAUSATION. We should also legalize ecstasy so that I could find some quality product for once. I also think that Vicodin and Xanax should be available without a prescription, just wishful thinking here.
Severe, Didn't mean any harm. Of course you're right about theantidrug, etc. Just thought it was funny to cite the NORML site without mentioning who they were. No big deal. I think everyone here knows I think the drug laws are stupid. I'd like to see the death penalty, the drug laws (all of them) and the sodomy laws repealed. In that order.
NP Man, I just re-read my post...damn I need to stop posting when I drink...sorry for the slight anger mis-management.
I don't do it, voted yes, what the hell, who cares. Some one please answer me this: You hear about people overdosing on heroine, meth, coke, and others, and you have even heard of cases of people dying of alcohol poisoning, but how often do you hear some one OD on pot? So what the hell, who cares?
