Why do you think mchale made this comment. Would like to know the context of the question. On Sunday at the Orlando Pro Summer League, Rockets' coach Kevin McHale said the team will try to mend fences with Asik. "With Omer, he had a great year for us last year and really became one of the top centers in the league," McHale said. "It's just when you have an opportunity to get Dwight, it's hard not to. I'm sure Omer right now is a little down in the dumps, but we'll pick him up."*
There are some upsides for Omer staying and playing 15 minutes: He would avoid the chance of playing on a really bad team. Shot at a ring. If he plays well, it will be mentioned on national tv, as the guy filling in for Dwight. Avoid injury and look for a bump in his next contract.
Being "in the dumps" doesn't mean "I DEMAND A TRADE" any more than "Dwight hasn't finalized a deal with the Rockets" means that "HOWARD CHANGES HIS MIND, HE'S 50/50 ON RETURNING TO THE LAKERS!!!"
Interesting angle but I never thought Asik would be short of suitors. For some reason I thought the phones would be running hot but not at the price Morey would accept. Twin Towers Double Power!
Even if this isn't true, I can't imagine Asik doesn't get moved before the start of training camp. He's too valuable a commodity to use as a backup to Dwight and I don't see them playing too many minutes alongside each other.
I can understand he wants to start, but I don't understand he had to make it public. That screws up his trade value for us. Dump him to the bobcats if that's what he wanted.
Im talking about serious suitors. Im talking about Ryan Anderson and Aminu for Asik/pick suitor. It was a smart business desicion on Houston's part to throw that tidbit out there. Now your going to get other teams fighting against each other for Asik's services. I guarantee Daryl has probably been called from half the league in regards to Omer, but nothing he would bite on. I think Oneal is our next signing BTW.
We should just go ahead and publicly make him available... We don't have to trade him anytime real soon. But he deserves to start in this league, if we don't plan on starting him I want him to be able to start somewhere else.
Silly me, I clicked on the article actually expecting to see a formal request from Asik to be traded.
Ok. I understand but I don't think Anderson and Aminu are worth it. Play the Twin Towers till the deadline and I think you can get some real good value then... Possibly LMA?
Asik has earned the right to start somewhere and have a chance to get a Javelle Mcgee 44M/4yr deal on his next contract. Stands a better chance of getting paid if he's starting somewhere rather than being Dwights caddy.
Aminu is underrated, and would be a good fit for our team. Unique skill set to come off the bench and spell minutes from Parson's, and Harden as well. I think waiting until February would be smart, but I just have my doubts that he will be here that long. No way we get LMA, because he is IMO the best PF in this league. Not getting that for Omer Asik.
One way to smooth things over is for Daryl to promise Asik that if he's still a Rocket when the season begins that, unless the offer is extraordinary, he won't look to move him until next Summer.
I love Asik. But if BSPN happens to be right this time, I think we should deal him. This team is aiming for the championship this season and we do not want a malcontented player on the team.
It is quite possible that Asik would prefer to be a starter somewhere but is NOT being an ASS about it. Simple as that. Near trollish post. But I doubt Omer the "Hack-an-Asik" breaker is a puss. No one wants to be moved out their "corner office" spot for someone else. Thats just human nature.
I strongly doubt that. We have BSPN LA on one side and the Rockets on the other. How did they reach Asik so quickly and find out he does not want to back up howard? It was literally 5 minutes after the Howard trade. They are creating this, so he can speak his mind. Of course he does not want to back up Howard, but he has a contract with us. **** them for creating problems for the Rockets.
