Give me a break!!!!!! How did he cash it in???? If Drexler wouldn't have been traded here we wouldn't have won a championship. That means hakeem would be without 1 more ring and all of Houston with 1 less championship celebration!!! Portland at the time was a team on the decline and if Clyde had stayed there he wouldn't have won a ring. Now where would that have gotten him? In a couple of years he retires without that elusive ring and before you know it everybody forgets who in the hell he is and what "noble" act he did by staying with a team that had absolutely no chance of winning the big one. Ever watch those old 5 second clips of old ball players (who most of us have never even seen play) during Sports Telecasts. Most of that footage is irrelevant to the everyday sports fan. Most of us just care about the here and now, and being a Drexler fan I would rather have the lasting memory of Glide going to another team to get one last shot at a championship then for him to stay aboard a sinking ship and forever be remembered as some old ball player that just couldn't get it done. By the way, Clyde was much better player than Miller and had been to 3 finals as compared to Miller's 1 so Reggie shouldn't be talking smack.
as did shaq, kemp, barkley, pippen. Drexler carried us in 94-95(with help from a dream) On rashard... we passed him up once i hope it doesnt happen again. I would give them mo and someone else for lewis. Rudy and CD have made some good decisions(dickerson, harrington, horry, mobley) and some bad ones(drew, turkcan, zwikker(was a 2nd round but still). next year if we trade up for a high pick-Murphy, curry, wallace, battier, or morris?
Since when did anyone but Spike Lee give a flying leap what Reggie Miller says? ------------------ "Somebody DO something out there." -Bill Walton
Yeah! I'm sure everyone thought the same thing when they limped into the playoffs as the sixth seed. Playing every series on the road en route to a championship was the plan all along. They wanted to add to the drama. Geez. What a stooge. Actually, what this is from Reggie is just a weak way to say, "I'll never win a championship but at least I'll leave the game with dignity." Bullsh*t!!! ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Reggie doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Right when Whitsett arrived he started cleaning house. He didn't want Clyde around anymore, he thought he was finished because of his knees. Portland WANTED to trade Clyde. They were at least good enough to trade him to Houston. I can't even understand how Reggie can compare himself to Clyde. The only thing Reggie has ever been able to do is shoot, nothing more, and he needs help in the form of screens to do it. The guy is a mediocre defender, rebounder, and passer. A freaking one dimensional player comparing himself to a guy that is only one of three players ever to have 20,000+ pts, 6,000+ assitst and 6,000+ rebounds. Damn I hate Reggie Miller! ------------------
Reggie doesnt have a clue what he's talkin about. How did he "cash in"? It's not like the Rox were the #1 team like Porland or LA right now. As Jeff pretty much said, we were underdogs, and we needed Drexler bad. "Cashing in" would be a lot more like the Pippen to Portland scenario, where you just jump ship to an already very good team. And as wong already said, Portland wanted to trade Drexler. Dumb Reggie. Another reason to hate him more. ------------------ president of the dan langhi fan club.
How the hell could Miller have gone to LA? Kobe Bryant's better than his sorry ass. Not to mention you have to be able to play defense to play for Phil Jackass.
so what if kobe is better? you do realize you have to have a bench dont you? or Phil JackSON can start miller, kobe, horry, grant. shaq. or even move kobe to the three and put miller at the two and put horry on the bench. If reggie wanted to sign there i guarantee LA would have signed him. I think that instead of trading rice for grant they should have traded rider plus a big man for a thug rebounder.
Payaso, horrible post- I side with Jeff on his thoughts; yeah, like 6th seed and winning on the road was planned? -Elie17 ------------------ Oh.. so this is how you add a signature huh? coo coo.
Did anyone catch this in the Chronicle? "I could have jumped ship and gone to L.A. and got my ring, cash it in like Clyde Drexler," (Reggie)Miller said. "He built Portland and then he jumped ship and went to Houston and got a ring..." H-town needs a new 'favorite son' to clean up the memory of this fraud and his weak act... even the rest of the league sees him as a quitter and a spoiled coprolite who was and is about nothing but himself. Downright Clintonian, if you ask me... and there can be no more damning an indictment than that against a person and his character. I would pay almost any price, short of #3, to bring Rashard Lewis back home and pay him the max, twice concurrently if possible. It's hard to see him quitting on a team he plays on, then quitting on a team he coaches. ------------------ It takes a lot of brains to enjoy satire, humor and wit- but none to be offended by them.
Reggie Miller.....this is a guy who has made a career out of flailing his arms like a little B!tch and getting to the line. As you can tell I no Miller fan....infact I cant stand him (He's down there with Malone in my books). Clyde Drexler left a Portland team that was in the decline. He was not leaving a team he built....the team he built was all but gone by the time he come to Houston. He come here to come back home, and play for his home team, the MIGHTY Rockets. He played out a dream of helping to take the Rockets to yet another title with his freind after so many years of talking about it with Hakeem. What Clyde did was special and will live with us Rockets fans forever. What will Miller be remembered for.....his sister, No ring, flailing arms and some shooting records......did I mention no ring? Maybe Miller should stop b****ing and remember that Clyde is an all time great. He isnt even close! Christopher (I hate Miller!) ------------------ Your Starting Power Forward for the Clutch City Allstars My Expert Opinion Of Steve Francis:Mate he is a special player!
HeeHee oh ya sorry, well about Miller. This statement does indeed show how people try to cover up for being sore losers. Last year's Finals was definately his final shot at the title. he KNOWS he will retire without a title if he doesnt go to LA or to Portland soon. Dignity my ass! Oh and, Drexler was traded in 1995 to a sixth seed team. not exactly a team you expect to win a title so Miller's stupid excuse doesnt make sense. ------------------ How Sweet it is!
Yeah baby how sweet it is!!!! Bring back the glory days. ------------------ President of the Sir Charles Barkley Fan Club
Why is everyone jumping on Reggie Miller? The gist of the article was talking about how honorable it is for one player to stick with his team for his entire career. He's been a free agent twice in the last 4 years and he has always resigned with the pacers. He could have jumped to the Knicks 4 years ago, which had much more talent than his Pacer teams. But he stayed. He even resigned with his team this past offseason, even though their window of opportunity has passed. And I think that's admirable. Imagine if Olajuwon was still a good player and demanded to be traded to a contender. I bet a lot of Rocket fans would be pissed. Clyde abandoned ship 5 and half years ago. He asked out of a team that was on the decline, but was still making the playoffs every year. He left Porter, Kersey, Robinson, and everyone else that were with him during his teams window of opportunity. When things go bad, it's nice to see some players stick it out with your comrades. And don't give me this he was traded to the 6th seed bull****. The 6th seed was better than what the Blazers were that year. And this was a team that was THE DEFENDING CHAMPS with the exact same personel. You don't think your chances wouldn't be better playing for the defending champs, whose current record wasn't indicative of their teams' capabilities. And let's not forget the shipped Clyde abandoned in the form of the University of Houston. Signs a long term contract with the university. Trying desperately to inflate his egotistical ass. And what happens. He realized coaching is difficult and time consuming. And he ditches his kids that he promised that he would be with for the duration of their college careers. Is that honorable? NO! Is reggie staying with the Pacers for his entire career honorable? I would say yes! And why discount Reggie's ability to play the game of basketball because of one insignicant comment about Clyde. It's not it was some horrible indictment against Clyde's character. He was just stating a fact. But we shouldn't disregard what Reggie has done in his career because of it. He is one of the greatest shooters ever. Very smart player. Just a great team guy. His post season accomplishments reads like some legendary proclamation. But we can't say the same about Clyde. And at least Reggie doesn't have to have his ego massaged at every opportunity. ------------------
Because Miller is not in the same class as Drexler. Clyde was the second-best player in the league at one point. He took his team to the finals twice and was their best player by a mile. He played both ends of the floor. Miller wasn't even the best player on the Pacers last year. He's never done anything but shoot and he choked massively in his only finals appearance. And he's always re-signed with the Pacers the last couple of years because nobody else would've payed the money for him. It's like if Jeff Hornacek would've said the same thing -- "yeah, I could've gone somewhere else and won like Drexler, but I chose to stay in Utah". Simply laughable.
I thought I made it pretty clear in my first post, but "Trader Bob" was cleaning house after he arrived. He started getting rid of people left and right. He wanted nothing to do with Clyde, Terry, or Jerome. Clyde was first, and Porter and Kersey were let go the VERY NEXT offseason. I doubt Clyde would have been able to stay even if he wanted to. He felt disrespected because he thought Whitsett was treating people within the organization like s***. He knew what was coming and he got out first. ------------------
Da Man got it- what happened to the rest of you? It wasn't so much the fact that Miller said it as it is the question of Drexler's character. It wasn't about coming to a 6 seed in '95 and contributing to a title where Miller never did. It is more about a guy who quit the rocks, WITH GAME LEFT IN HIS BONES, because he hated CB4. It's about a guy who turned surly to the fans whenever the glaring eye of the TV camera wasn't on him. It's ESPECIALLY about a guy who quit on his college kids after displaying poor sportsmanship and ref-baiting tendencies in the coaching realm. Get over the '95 title- that was 5 seasons ago. And the product on the court today is closer to the Run-TMC Warrior teams that floundered in mediocrity than to anything approximating a title contender. That alone should get you worked up to open the vault for Elsik's Finest, if not for the good character and work ethic that young Rashard would bring. Oh, and did I mention he had MAD GAME? ------------------ It takes a lot of brains to enjoy satire, humor and wit- but none to be offended by them.
Um, no, that was all the Miller quote was about. The rest is all a product of your obvious hatred of Drexler. Next time, don't hide behind someone else's words.
That is BS by Reggie! Lots of times I don't agree with what Reggie Miller has to say. Sounds to me like he is just trying to make himself look like a hero or good guy at the expense of Clyde, who has always been a gentleman and shown good sportsmanship - something Reggie cannot boast of. Wong is right. Portland had already started rebuilding and the owner thought so much of Clyde that he actually paid part of Clyde's salary at least the first year he was in Houston out of his high regard for Clyde. Reggie Miller really isn't in the same class as Clyde, on the court or off the court! Absolutely, Clyde was the 2nd best player in the league for more than one year. The player he was behind - Michael Jordan. Other than Michael, Clyde was head and shoulders above any other player. Although not in his prime with the Rockets, in 1995 playoffs there were times when things weren't going right and Clyde made things happen. Reggie Miller has been known to let his team down in playoffs. He can be great one game and stink the next. Reggie has never been as good a player as Clyde was. ------------------
