I'm sorry but this guy sucks.I see no potential at all. What I saw yesterday was daniel santiago and a foreign guy who didnt start playing bball until he was 17 outplay our. Don't tell me his minutes were productive either. what guy can't get a couple of rebounds when they fall right to him? please get Los some minutes before playing collier. If he put out half the effort those big men on the suns did then there might be some good to come out of him.

Tacoma Park Ghost, you are wrong again. Collier had his best game against the Suns, and he made a real contribution doing the little things that don't show up in the stats, like tipping the ball out to his teammates 3 times for offensive rebounds. Santiago is a veteran European pro who is fairly agile for a big guy, so I don't feel badly about him outplaying Collier at this point.

You need to give Collier a year before you judge his basketball skills, unless you think you are a better evaluator of talent than Rudy and CD.

We already know what Los can do. We will not know what Collier can do until we play him.

Not all rookies are going to have excellent first years like Steve did. Most don't.

At least give the guy until mid-season break before you pass judgment. If he hasn't accomplished anything by then (i.e., if he hasn't learned to grab maybe 3-6 rebs, drop 4-8 pts, maybe a swat... in 12 minutes) then consider dumping (trading) him. It's too early.

Now, my first impression of his play so far is that he's too slow and not agressive enough, but those can both be fixed with time and training. I think he might have the right attitude for learning, though - maybe that's what Rudy saw in him in the first place... A nice piece of clay to mold into a playable center. I dunno. It really IS too early to tell.

For the time bein', tho, just ease yer finger off that trigger there, son...

Collier may not have the most talent, but he at least hustles. I'm not going to start bashing Mo, but if Mo put out 75% of the effort Collier does for rebounds, he'd be quite a player.

I haven't looked at the box score, but I do know Santiago was hacking like crazy, and has JUST as far as Collier does to be a legit NBA player.

Im not basing my opinions on these first few games, I'm basing my opinions on 4 years of college mediocrity from this guy and what I see as a lack of hustle and desire out there on the court

College mediocrity ? I'll admit he doesn't look like a pro player right now, but wasn't he ACC player of the year for an average team ?

    treeman,
If he is getting 6 boards, 8 points, and 1 block in twelve minutes, why not leave him in the whole game for 20, 30, 4? [IMG]

If you call leading the ACC in rebounding "mediocrity", then I don't think you know your basketball, in my humble opinion.

Well, TB3, if you had actually seen all his college games, you would know how easy it is to lead the ACC when all the rebounds just "fall into your hands." Your eyes were playing tricks on you last night when it looked like he was fighting for position with that stiff from the Lakers.

I never said he didnt have a chance to help the rockets, but what I saw through the 1dt few games and his college career didnt impress me.He finally went out there and hustled and thats all you can ask for. If he hustles I have nothing to complain about. As far as him leading the ACC in rebounding, that doesnt impress me, he didnt exactly propel georgia tech back into national prominence.I dont think he's a bad player, I just dont think he deserved to be picked at the 15th spot in the draft and thats why i was pissed.

    1. Collier does not look like a 1st round draft pick. But, a great deal of his problem is "softness," which could, perhaps, be fixed.

    2. He might have some worth... Rudy has to play him to find out.

    3. Why would you take Rashard Lewis over Dickerson? Dickerson is nearly a star, and Lewis has yet to prove that he's a legitimate NBA starter. I'll agree with you about Mirsad, though... but I wonder if this is the proper thread?

    4. If these rebounds in the ACC just "fell into his hands" then why didn't other people get them? Like NC's Forte? Collier did have an excellent college career.

For one Joseph Forte is a shooting guard, and If I remember most shooting guards aren't big time rebounders. The guy transfered from Indiana and in his 2 years at GT did nothing special at all. If you had ever watched any of his games, most announcers and fans agreed that he was somewhat of a disapointment because he was at best an above average college player. Collier does have one thing you cant teach, height.
