According to a report on KILT, the Rockets have terminated their television contract with channel 55, the Tube in Houston. I can only assume that this has a lot to do with the serious problems the channel has had with reception in and around Houston. WOW! That is a blow to the Tube. The Rockets games will be broadcast on a different station in Houston beginning soon. More info to come... ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Good thing...the signal last night was horrible. I heard they bought out the contract and are moving back to Channel 20. Stay tuned. Old School ------------------ I voted YES!
damn,,,and I just got done climbing on top of my roof to point my antenna in the proper direction like their answering machine said to do. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited November 08, 2000).]
Man, that is great news! I've been getting more and more frustrated with the horrible reception from ch. 55. I went up and fiddled with my antanna too only to make it worse. I missed the game last night as a result (well, not entirely - I did listen to Gene and Jim on the radio). Thank goodness the Rockets pulled the plug on that partnership. I hope they get hooked up with a better station soon. ------------------
The In Studio work sucked too. They couldn't get their cameras switched at the right times. They couldn't get video started right. You could tell Lisa M. was getting frustrated working with such talentless production people. ------------------
As long as the games are being broadcast, I'm good to go. Is this "move" effective immediately? ------------------ Only in America....do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.
That is indeed good news. The reception on The Tube has sucked big-time ever since the station came into existence. ------------------
Does this mean there will be some games that will not be televised while the Rox seek a new contract with another station or will the Tube continue televising games until the contract is up? ------------------ I'm not the type to eat it up but the type to hit it raw dog and seed it up.
Does anyone want to take this one? ------------------ I'm not the type to eat it up but the type to hit it raw dog and seed it up.
Beuller....Beuller.....Beuller ------------------ I'm not the type to eat it up but the type to hit it raw dog and seed it up.
That is GREAT news! I haven't been able to see one TUBE game yet. The reception in West Houston is terrible! ------------------ "Somebody DO something out there." -Bill Walton
channel 20 is where the Rockets won their titles, it should be good to be back there. With UPN's fate probably doomed after this TV season, it will be a good deal for KTXH. this couldn't happen to a nicer guy than Dan Patrick (he just became 55's GM)! Hey Summer, maybe you should post it louder. ------------------ Kenny Thomas had a foul called on him in the Western Conference Finals.
The new tv contract should begin immediately. No word as to if any games will be lost but channel 20 will likely get most of the games with the rest made up by Fox SW or, possible, KTXN, channel 51, the same station that covers the Astros. Who knows at this point? ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Wow, thats good news. I though there was something wrong with my tv that i couldnt get the Tube (all i got was a lot of static and a very very very faint picture). I guess i was lucky that i had cable to fall back on (i ended up watchin games in the livin room instead of my room as a result). ------------------
Did I read that Dan Patrick worked at the TUBE?? Is this another slap of his face. I hope so. He lost the Rockets on his radio station at one time. Now he gets to lose them on a TV station. ------------------
Official from the Houston Rockets Organization ------------------ The Houston Rockets have announced the team's return to UPN-20 to telecast games this season beginning with this weekend's road games on Saturday against the Portland Trail Blazers at 9 p.m. and Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers at 8:30 p.m. The games now slated for UPN-20 were originally scheduled to air on Channel 55 the Tube this season. Today, the Rockets and the Tube mutually agreed to end their arrangement for Channel 55 to carry Rockets games. The Tube has carried a total of seven preseason and regular season telecasts. "The Rockets organization made the decision that we thought was in the best interest of our fans and our corporate partners, and we're thrilled to be back on UPN-20," Rockets Chief Operating Officer George Postolos said. The Rockets return to UPN-20 reunites the team with the station that served as its over-the-air flagship for 14 years prior to the start of the 1997-1998 season.
