Thread full of fans excited about the prospect of Dwight signing with the Rockets? Nearing 300 pages.

Thread for fans who don't want Dwight on the Rockets? Just barely over 8 pages - half of which are fans who want Dwight telling them they're crazy.

Not that anyone cares, but I've been holding on to my opinion about Howard for a while now due to the fact that the people I want to read this will probably just put up a gif of how stupid I am and how they didn't read it. Ironic how blindsided people seem to be with regards to Howard while doing the exact opposite with regards to Lin.

    Offense

    1. Pick and Roll: Dwight Howard is a very good pick and roll player. The Rockets currently Love to run pick and rolls. We have 2 quality penetrating guards and if done correctly this can work very nicely with Dwight (and for Dwight). The only problem is, he does not want to play pick and roll basketball. I can't imagine how the Rockets could improve on his opinion of this if Steve Nash and D'antoni could not get him to roll properly after picks. I watched a lot of Laker games last year because I love watching Nash and Howard rarely set proper picks, and rarely rolled hard to the rim.

    2. Post ups: After watching him all season last year it became obvious that Dwight has only a tiny touch more post up skill than Asik - and you all know what that entails. He tends to take too many dribbles, often bounces the ball off his foot or leg in traffic, or gets stripped. He travels on occasion and the times he doesn't turn the ball over on his move he tends to cause an offensive foul by waving his elbows or dipping his shoulders. If it was up to me I would never double team Howard. He will either foul himself out of a game or turn the ball over so often that the he wont get any more touches. I didn't see more than a handfull of times all season where he had a good offensive 1on1 or 1on2 move in which he got a bucket that didn't look like a lucky "huck" towards the rim. More over, this is where Dwight WANTS the ball on offense - he prefers this type of possession to the quality PnR possessions that we could actually benefit from.

    3. Mid range: No real need to talk about this, he has no jumper. Not a huge deal though, not many centers do anyways.

    4. Free throws: Obviously, this is terrible. He is a running joke in all of basketball for his free throw struggles. No need to add anything else here.

    5. Off ball: You will get rare glimpses of "young Dwight" where he will move off ball to get lobs, but again you run into the "I want the ball into the post" Dwight that doesn't work. This is a matter of confidence in your coach and teamates, and a matter of your unselfishness. Dwight seems to struggle in all of those categories, just take a look at his public comments and what he has done to his past 2 teams.

    6. Passing: No special ability here. Again a matter of unselfishness which Dwight has yet to show he has. I actually rarely see him pass so it's hard to tell if he can even throw a decent outlet or hit a cutter in the lane when he is posted up.

TL;DR Dwight has many many weak spots on offense wether you believe it or not.

    Defense

I don't really want to talk about the defense in that much detail because we all know what he can do.

+Dwight can block shots and erase defensive errors by our perimeter players. This is great.
+He protects the rim and can guard any other center 1on1 without much of a problem.
+He obviously rebounds very well to the point that it discourages the other team from trying and wasting their time / energy - again very nice.

    Intangibles
    -Issues with previous coaches
    -Issues with previous teammates
    -Issues with previous franchises
-Known to have mental roadblocks (hes publicly stated this regarding his free throws) i.e. not a reliable "clutch" performer

+However, he would be a premier trade chip most likely
    +He does have DPOY potential
+He might be able to attract other top prospect FA's

    2 more things:

"Took his team to the finals argument": Yes he did! Congrats! He did play well in 2009. 2009, 4 going on 5 years ago. Brandon Roy was up and coming MVP candidate 5 years ago. Why don't we bring in Shaq. Wade was dominant 5 years ago. Trevor Ariza was a hot prospect that season...

Injury: We don't know what will happen with his injury. It's just as likely that he never has another problem as it is that he breaks down again soon. Have you seen how hard he gets hit when he pump fakes under the rim? It's hard to believe he doesn't get hurt more often.

    Summary
The real question here is do the positives outweigh the negatives? I personally don't think they do TODAY. This could change over time, perhaps with a longterm deal we would never hear of these issues again. Perhaps he can be coached to have a positive impact on offense. It's really up to Dwight.

    Thanks for reading

WHEN DW comes , and if we get his buddy Josh Smith. The pecking order might shift.

Howard is becoming a Rodman who demands touches. This is not a pretty future for a young team with great chemistry.

    DWIGHT

Im all for signing Howard, but I hope we dont trade away Asik and Lin.

    HOWARD
    ASIK
    PARSONS
    HARDEN
    LIN/BEVERLEY

Thats good for at LEAST the third seed in the west, with a strong chance at winning the conference providing dwight can stay healthy and at top form.

Well spoken. I can't believe so many people are still believing we are signing the Dwight Howard from 2009. I didn't see that player the last two years and I don't believe he was simply just pouting. He looks hurt, he looks like a player in decline, but he and his agent smartly turned it into a Lakers-blaming game.

You are trying to justify the logic of the masses. Had clutchfans existed in the summer of '98, there would this type of positive craze for Scottie Pippen. There is ample evidence that Dwight Howard is on the decline. Could we trade him if he turns out to be a dud? Probably for only .50 for the dollar. What did we get from Portland after the Pippen debacle? Poo poo platter.

Wow... I can't believe people like you are still going on with this dumb argument. We played like he was hurt last year because HE WAS HURT. He came back early from his injury for the team and was criticized for it. He looked like he was in decline because HE WAS HURT. Now why don't you take this next sentence and repeat it to yourself 100 times; EVEN CLEARLY HURTING, DWIGHT WAS STILL THE BEST CENTER IN THE LEAGUE, BETTER THAN ASIK'S SEASON.

Everyone already knows he sucks at shooting from the line. So did Shaq. What is the point?

Howard = Best Center in the NBA
Harden = Best SG in the NBA

People really do not wanna pair them up

Lemme give another example if Texans (All Day Texans) do not win a Superbowl it will be because we passed up the BEST QB IN THE NFL (Peyton Manning)

This is the best chance to win a championship. Point blank you do not pass up best players at there position

That's like saying Hakeem was a bad passer while speaking in context of Antoine Carr. You seriously cannot be comparing Shaq and Howard.

And honestly, it bothers me more that they are up only 3 and he LAUGHS about airballing it.

One THEORY that wont go away is that Rockets option is smoke to throw people off scent Dwight has been ticketed for Dallas all along.
