    Dwight cannot hold Hakeem's jockstrap.

I think we can safely say Smith is better than Terrence Jones. It bears repeating defense wins championships and a defensive trio of Howard, Asik, and Smith is well rested, allows you to throw many different looks at your opponent, and would absolutely kill on the glass. Yeah it's a lot of cap to commit to your front court but you don't need a world beater at PG just a guy who can shoot and not turn it over. You've still got Harden and Parsons and use the room to get another wing.

Best scenario I've seen posted this offseason and the crazy thing is its actually feasible!

Don't forget about the business side of things, where Lin is far more valuable than Asik. There's a general lack of interest for the Hawks basketball and Philips Arena is empty all the damn time. An intriguing player like Lin could really help them.

Winning would help more. Asik would be better for that.

Sorry but Howard, Asik and Smith isn't happening. You very likely have to give up Asik to get Smith in a S&T.

Yeah but that doesn't seem like a Danny Ferry motive. He's from the Spurs school of thought. Strictly on the court.

    my thoughts too.

any championship level coaches available, that ALSO fit our owners demand of a fast paced offense?

also, dwight would have to approve.

You can say this for most of the players in the league.

Hakeem right now is probably a better offensive player than Dwight Howard.

Playoff team for the past 6 seasons, went to conference semifinals in '09,'10,'11... and still had problems with low attendance.

In 2 minutes of play? For sure. Beyond 10 minutes, Dwight for sure. Between 2 and 10 minutes would be fun to talk about.

Either Morey is the biggest, fattest liar in the history of sports by making an unequivocal statements at a news conference that Lin and Asik are not on the trading block...or, Lin and Asik are really, truly not on the trading block.

Guys, this isn't your junior high pick-up-game general manager here, who can change his mind and give as explanation "hey, I changed my mind"! Morey is the general manager of an NBA organization; he is a professional businessman. Morey wouldn't go on record to say that Lin and Ask are safe from trades, and two days later trade them. That has never, ever happened--and it won't, I assure you. Morey would win the jacka** of the year award, if he did that. Its backstabbing in its essence, and GM's of NBA teams don't do that kind of thing.

Seriously, what's the point of comparing Hakeem with Howard? It's pointless because today's NBA is a different game. If the UH version of Hakeem entered the draft and was picked by the Rockets, I bet you he'd be running a lot more P&Rs with Lin and Harden than to be a low-post beast. And hypothetical current day Hakeem wouldn't be able to hold a candle to the real one.

In the end, it matters how Dwight Howard stacks up to the rest of NBA centers(he is the best when healthy) and rest of the NBA in general(probably 3rd or 4th best player if he's dedicated and healthy). That would be Hakeem's level impact as a Rocket. Maybe not peak-Hakeem level, but certainly average Hakeem level.

Saying they're not on the trading block is not the same as saying they're not going to be traded. The first means we're not looking to actively trade them (but if it makes sense we'll consider it). It's unfortunate bc I like Lin and Asik and think the team would do well with them.

Btw why couldn't we just trade Asik and white plus 2m to atl for smith. That would allow us to offer smith up to $15m (too much in my book) and still keep Lin. I think atl would go for that bc they have no intention of resigning smith.

Serious question: is this your first year following the NBA. Gm's never ever (Bargs being the only exception I can think if) admit a play is on the block.

Adding Dwight changes everything, chemistry will be a question mark, but there's no reason to be pessimistic over that, and a Harden/Howard/Smith/Parsons/Beverly starting five would be hella good.

I really don't like the idea of going after JSmith. This team is really lacking depth at the wing positions and going after Smith would tie up a lot of salary in the front court.

In the event that they would try to aquire Smith by way of a s-n-t, I think the likeliness of having to trade both Lin and Asik would hurt the team. They are simply more needed on this team than a pf that can't space the floor and is turnover prone.

Between the salary commitment, the lack of shooting, and the likely snt, acquiring JSmith is just not a move that could really pay dividends.

If the trade doesn't go through it kind of makes the players feel salty in the locker room.
