It's been bugging me the past few days how we have no clue where Yao will be this offseason. Will he be here for camp? Will he be given at least a month's rest? The only thing I know is that windandsea told me he will return to Shanghai as SOON as the season is over. I have nothing on how long he'll be there, the Chinese NT's games, or whether or not he'll be given a chance to train/rest over HERE in Houston in the offseason. So please, chip in with whatever you can. If you know what Yao will be doing this offseason, tell us so we can get teh facts straight.
Second the request. I hope Team Yao, Duffy, Les, whoever, can convince the National Team coaches that it's not in the (National) team's long-term interest to over-work Yao this summer. I can see why they'd have incentive to get Yao in as much practice time as possible, but Yao needs rest, or all parties involved will suffer.
No, i guess Yao will not go back to China. As i know Yao's grilfriend will come to US this June. She presents for China basketball women team. and they will come to here for a basketball summer training. Yao said jokingly would join their training.
fzjordan, Is that legit? winandsea made it very clear to me that Yao Ming has to go back to Shanghai immediately after the Rockets season. Does the Mens Chinese Nation Team have any tournament or important games coming up this summer? Another question: In soccer, when friendly games are unimportant, usualy teams send second rate players. If China had some meaningless friendly games, would they ask for Yao to play with them?
I got the impression that after the season was over he was going back to China. And that China's national team has to compete in a tournament this summer to qualify for the Olympics (same as the US team!). Additionally Yao will have to TRAIN with the Chinese National Team for this tournament. Not sure how much of this will take up Yao's summer. With all that said, I have a feeling that Yao will not be doing anything with the Rockets this summer. I would like to know however if any of his Chinese obligations extend into October with the Rockets training camp. Anyone have any ideas? If we can't get Yao for the summer it sure would be great to get him for Training Camp.
China will have to compete in the Asian Championships to get into the Olympics. Considering the way they rolled last year (except for the last game), they should have no problem. It should be a cakewalk for Yao, so I doubt it will be too strenuous on him. I think he only has to play 8 games, but I'm not sure. I heard they practice about five hours per day, though...
Actually, it is earlier than that. The Chinese National Team will play the Houston Comets on May 6th in a preseason exhibition. I Yao on tv joking that he would be their ball boy.

It's merely hearsay in our country. 2. our country's tournament will be ending next month ( now game has come to semifinal). and so far i did not hear there will be any important game except Yao wants to teach his little brother how to play basketball. 3.NO. what is it for? to teach them or to hurt himself. fzjordan at tigerlinmin@yahoo.com.cn
oh, maybe you are right. but anyway, we hope Yao will have enough time to rest and also to join Rocket's trainning, let him to well-mixed with all the teamates and to get more dirty in the court. fzjordan
I hope he is able to R&R somewhere this summer... For selfish reasons, I wish he would stay in H-Town and train with Moses...That would bring his game up immediately next season... Well, we can all hope he gains weight and not loses any...
I think Yao will return to China as soon as thie season is over. In many places he said he is very homesick. I dont think he will join the summer league in the US. When will he join the NT? I dont know, it depends on the request of CBA. By the way, Wang didn't refuse to join NT last summer. He just insist on going back on month before the World Champion Tournament began. CBA requested three months in advance.
You guys better understand how things work in China. If YaoMing has any spare time this summer, the Chinese government, CBA.. would grab him back to China or wherever to play some stupid exhibition games, doing promotions... Those SOBs just want money from him, that's it. They don't care about Yao's health, fatigue, training, future...
Yao Ming will attend the Asian Championship 2003 to help Chinese NT to get the qualification of Olympic. Asian Championship is held in every two years. This is the information about the game at 2001. You can see how long and how hard it is. http://www.asia-basket.com/events/ac/ac01.asp From FIBA, this year's game will be held in China from 09/03-09/12 (I thought it would be at Lebaron). http://www.fiba.com/competition/calendar/main.asp?RID=&lang=EN&cc=&year=&fIsC=False#MARK When will Ming go back? Don't know yet. But Ming said the new head coach of NT is very strict.
W&S, from that information it looks like Yao's International Play will end on 9/12. That gives him a few weeks of rest and then he can get to the Rockets training camp on time this year. That's not too bad.
Yeah verse, anytime someone lies and gets caught they are always just kidding...didn't you know that?
Why they need YM? They won so easily in the semi and final. Maybe he will be used as meal-tickets since it will be held in China.
Surely all this is contingent upon the Rockets and their post season! If we are in the playoffs,we will have a playoff season,so he wont be going home till his playoff games have ended. He has stated that he is homesick for his native country, so I feel sure besides the olimpic qualifying he just needs to be back in China.
