I would absolutely love for him to end the meetings early and commit to us, especially before meeting back with Lakers. How amazing that would be
Not sure if this was posted. Espn panel on who has what to offer Dwight and which is the best fit. http://t.co/FLfW8HMmi3
He needs to be & Calvin should return to commentating... If the Rockets are going to be in upgrade mode, might as well go all out. Our broadcasters need an upgrade... And I know this is off topic, but hopefully the Rockets sign Dwight so more games will be on national tv... Thus allowing a lot of us to actually see the games.
Yeah, but a few pieces of that roster are gone if the Lakers get serious about a sign and trade. Thompson is definitely in that package and either Bogut or Lee. Jarret Jack is a question mark to resign. There are plenty of holes in that roster.
I am not 100% sure if Smith was indeed in that meeting last night with the Rockets. But I can tell you this without any hesitation that Howard being able to play his buddy Smith was one of Morey's main selling points to Dwight. All the reports that we are reading about the Rockets being "cocky' has to do with this fact. Putting Howard, Smith and an elite 2 guard in Harden together on one team is something no other team in the league can offer D12. Everybody else is just going through the formalities now.
I am trying to think of any reasons for him to stall this thing out. There may be a reason to keep the rest of the league in the dark so other moves can happen? Maybe Asik's value will be a little lower if Dwight is on board? I don't necessarily think he is intentionally stalling so I guess the only other reason is out of respect to certain owners/agents/friends, etc. he will meet with these other teams. Just seems strange to waste everyone's time but I guess it would be kind of cool to hear how much everyone wants you if you are a narcissist.
Yah I mean I could have misread twitter direct message on that...but I posted what he wrote in context to our conversation...that was my thought. He definitely said I got it right with my SIG though. So rockets intend to offer smith a contract too.
I think the main reason from Dwight's end is obvious: his image, which we know he's concerned about. He wants to show the world that he was careful and thorough with his decision, that he had an open mind, etc. He has a reputation for being impulsive and easily swayed, and I think this process is a way to try and change that.

Ken Berger: Nobody knows where things go from here with Dwight. That's why this decision is so important. Is he going to be known as a winner, a whiner, a guy who changed teams three times in three years? A lot is riding on this, not only for the teams chasing him but for Dwight Howard too. What happens to the Houston franchise if Dwight says no? How bad will it look? I don't know if I would say devastating but a disappointment. They put all their eggs in this basket. Daryl has accumulated assets, young players on reasonable contracts. We haven't heard about plan B because they want to be perceived as the front runner. There's always a plan B. When you assemble a roster like theirs, you have flexibility and players other teams want, you'll be able to plug it together. Howard is the only big fish. They go for it here. They're putting their best foot forward. If it doesn't work out, they know they put the roster in place to go to plan B or C if needed. Berger v.2: Houston is the front-runner, what is Houston offering that others don't? The Rockets want the perception they are the front-runners. Given the guy we're dealing with, I would be cautious about using words like front-runners. This is a guy who has changed his mind. He has a difficult and important choice. The Rockets are an intriguing fit. You have Harden, another young player in Chandler Parsons, you have a lot of assets on that roster to bolster the team or to be parlayed into future assets. The chance to contend for a championship, that window is most accessible right away (out of all the teams chasing him). That's the strength of their pitch. Remains to be seen whether that will override the LA market and cache and all that comes with that, as well as the 30 million dollars and 5th year. Why didn't he blend well with LA? When they first made the deal a year ago, that was one of the first things I thought. There's no doubting his talent and athletic ability. But his personality and track record of immaturity didn't seem Laker like. Dwight's personality, he's the class clown. To be honest, you don't want to change who you are and be something you're not but there is a certain level of professionalism you conduct yourself with when you're a Laker. I'm not sure he's ready for that. As of now, it doesn't look like a great fit. Josh Smith? Sometimes things run their course. He grew up in Atlanta, been there his whole career, they're at a crossroads, rebuilding. Sometimes it's time for a change. To be a free agent and courted, I think he'll enjoy it. I was told he came away impressed with Joe Dumars and would be a nice fit in that front court with the talent they have there with Drummond and Monroe.
I may have missed it, but I thought someone was going to post something july 1 that would anger laker fans?
Agreed, everything seems to be very calculated at this point with everyone knowing his schedule and what not. Makes sense considering his image around the league is pretty broken. I don't think anyone except Laker fans will fault him for leaving for Houston and it should be easy to restore his image with us. This free agency hoopla should help him look like a reasonable human being for once assuming he makes the right decision and quickly.
I think Dwight will have meetings with the rest of the other teams out of respect. It would be rude of him to just cancel on them if he has already made up his mind.
