There is no evidence that they are pulling the trigger on any of those moves prior to DH making a firm commitment.

Looks like the Rockets are making contingency plans based on Howard's signing. It's common sense. I'm sure they also have plans in place if he doesn't.

 

I don't think this piece of info should surprise anyone. With this team, my default assumption is pretty much that everyone is available all the time unless otherwise specified. The team has bid farewell to plenty of players that its fans and even its coaches and front office like very much-- Scola, Landry, Lowry, Dragic, Delfino. I am pretty sure DMo's and TJones' names have also been mentioned plenty of times in trade talks, too. It's just that CBS Sports didn't decide to write about these two.

As for Lin and Asik specifically in this situation. Signing Howard would leave Houston with no cap room and, other than Howard and Harden, these two are the two biggest contracts around. So, if you want any high $ players in a regular trade, a sign & trade or a straight signing, at least one of them will have to be included for salary matching purposes. So, my guess is that Asik and/or Lin's departure is contingent upon the right "third star" being available at the right price (in terms of salary or trade assets needed). This may or may not happen, but Daryl owes it to himself to at least try.

Also don't know why I'd feel bad for Lin or Asik. It's not like they turned down $ to specifically play in Houston or to play with Dwight+Harden. They signed the best contract available on the market and each got $25M out of it. They will also still get to play NBA basketball. Not like trading them will condemn them to play in the Greek League or something.

 

Or that cheap ass owner can open his wallet a little more and try and build a contender without scrapping pieces.

This is all very confusing b/c the dude who predicted Marcus Morris' stardom was also constantly telling us that Linsanity was the norm. We'd have to say he was wrong about those things if this were to come to pass.

Morey informs agents for Lin and Asik that they have been traded and will be announced on July 11
