What side of town you on? I'm going to shamelessly plug a friends A/C business, but they're great at what they do. Mention Travis referred you and ask for Paul. http://www.angieslist.com/companylist/us/tx/houston/ac-air-enterprises-reviews-374988.htm
Depends on the problem. One of the AC fans went out in my house...found the problem on google and fixed it myself...$12 and 2-3 minutes of work. Probably would've cost 100-200 bucks otherwise. Try to find out what the problem is first and see how tough it is to fix before running to get some 'pro' to upcharge you for something a few minutes of simple work will fix.
Thanks guys. I ended up calling John Moore today and they're asking 2800 to replace (3 ton) coil. will start calling other companies/people tomorrow.
I want to vouch for his father. My parents' condenser coil needed to replaced almost 3 years ago. His father was considerably cheaper and did a great job. Also, a super nice guy to boot. I highly recommend him!
2600 is what I was quoted by a company I trust at the time. 800 is what the guys at work said it should be. 800 is what Cother quoted and did it for. My coil was still in warranty and upstairs in attic. Tuff spot but they laughed when I told them what other company quoted. If your coil is in warranty make SURE you get more quotes from whoever you choose. 2800 seems high in my opinion.
that's a good price still. my house is only 1400. one of the AC company is telling me to replace the condenser and he's asking 4T for both.
