I don't agree at all, I think Cuban has way too much influence on basketball decisions for his team, he's the GM in all but name. And he's not very good at it. I think it's a terrible idea for owners to be GMs (see: Jones, Jerry).

They've been one of the 3 or 4 best teams in the league over the last 10-15 years haven't they? Certainly well ahead of the Rockets. They won 50 games 10 straight years from 2000 to 2010 including 3 years of 60 plus wins (67 peak). They haven't had a losing record since 1999 and missed the playoffs for the first time in 13 years this past season.

He seems to have done a pretty good job running the team actually. They went from being a perennial loser before he bought them to consistently being one of the best in the NBA after that.

How many owners are openly criticised by their best player for poor decisions? Dirk had to try and white out what he said, but there was nothing confusing about his meaning.

Is Mark Cuban, Peter Holt or Micky Arison a better owner?

How is that relevant? The poster said one of the best owners, not the best owner. He is one of the best owners.

Speaking of Toyota Center... anybody else find it annoying that the Comets AND Aeros (two teams that don't exist anymore) have huge featured banners... while they grouped all the Rockets division and conference championships into two tiny banners. This is a carry-over from the Compaq Center/Summit days (where Les was did not own the lease)... thus, I understand if they wanted to minimize the Rockets banners over there.

But the Toyota Center should totally be Les/Rockets. Much lesser (and greater) teams continue to hang each and every conference and division banner because they are an achievement... I don't understand why the Rockets don't honor it the same way.

Next thing we know, they'll lump the two titles into one banner to save space.

They have the room... get rid of the Aeros/Comets stuff. If they want to put something somewhere else that says "yes, we once had a wnba and minor league hockey team, before the city could care less about them" that's fine too.

Two of those guys have an ownership style that could be defined as "signs checks, collects trophy".

Cuban wasn't even considered in the top 10 of owners a few years back, and his ownership style hasn't changed one iota since, and if anything, his "blow up championship team, piss away Dirk's last years" is going to be so easy to demonize for every team chasing Dwight, it's laughable, meanwhile Les made sure we held on until Yao's last dance.....

Since his golden peak, he's been criticised by Deron Williams, Jason Kidd and of all people Dirk Nowitzki....

Les Alexander has long been considered one of the nba's best owners, but you're so trapped in the moment you make Magic look like a long term planner.

Les took over the rockets in 1994 when the team was already put together I don't give him credit for the two championships. I give him credit for acquiring Charles Barkley, Steve Francis, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming and Jeremy Lin. Like he said all these players wanted to play in Houston but he didn't know how to handle all that.

And NBA TITLE to that. And not an inherited title like (our own Les Alexander) That pretty much makes any owner at least respectable.

Cuban's a douche. But people don't remember back far enough the CRAPHOLE of a franchise that Dallas used to be BEFORE he took over. They were Bobcats kinda bad

What do you think an owner's role is? to be the team's General Manager ?

The only real criticism that could be levelled at Les is he kept Dawson as GM too long.

When Cuban took over the franchise the mavs were a garbage franchise with crappy attendance. He turned them to a team that wins 50+ wins and contends to get to the finals. He did that by largely spending a lot of money. The only thing I want my owner is spend money and get good players.

Les could be trying to emphasize that only 1 type of banner counts in Houston. NBA Championships. I know it's funny to think about with some of the moves they've made over the years but I think that is his philosophy.

Comets have four banners, rockets have two.

Aeros have I think two titles to their name I believe.

Don't think any comets numbers are retired. Can't recall if Gordie Howe is retired.

Rockets need new Jerseys. Yao era is over. They should just go back to classics, Hakeem days. Simple red and white, revamp the McDonalds one.

Be sure and hire C-3PO so the Ewoks don't end up putting Dwight on a rotisserie spit and try to cook him.

Chris Broussard also told me that they will have an in house locker room DJ announcing who is coming to the stage.
